ECHS competes in tourney

The Escambia County High School Blue Devils traveled to Freeport High School last week for the Ninth Annual Walton Sun Christmas Blowout basketball tournament.
The Lady Blue Devils faced Holmes County in game two of the tournament in a 54-40 defeat. ECHS led the game 14-9 at the end of the first quarter, but Holmes took a 27-15 lead after ECHS was only able to score once in the second quarter. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 40-25. The Lady Devils scored 15 points in the final quarter, but could not overcome the Holmes lead.
Leading the scoring for the Lady Devils was Jasmine Sanders with 19 points.
Carnella Lee followed with 10 while Tinekka Lett had six, Latashia Taylor had three and Martesha Crenshaw had two. Marlanna Speights led Holmes with 15 points.
In game 15 of the tournament the Blue Devils faced Chalmette High School.
The score was 23-13, Chalmette at the end of the first quarter, a lead the Blue Devils would never overcome. At halftime Chalmette led 36-29. The gap widened in the third quarter to put Chalmette ahead 55-43. The Blue Devils were defeated 76-61.
Leading the scoring for ECHS was Lorenzo Arnold with 15 points.
Willie Knight followed with 14, Jeremy McCantis and Phillip Sharp each had 10, Derek Martin had six, Clinton Sharpless had five and Bobby Montgomery had one. Anthony Boudreary led Chalmette with 28 points.
The Blue Devils will play at home Jan. 2 and 3 as they host the United Bank New Year's Tournament.
