Our View
It's that time of year again. The Atmore Advance staff is hard at work putting together our yearly Horizons issue.
This special project we are undertaking is one that we feel not only represents the status of the local newspaper, but also our town, Atmore. When most people think of or view a horizon it usually involves something rising or setting such as the sun. We firmly believe that for both our paper and town we are on the rise.
This year our Horizons issue will be distributed at the end of March rather than February as in previous years. This will allow us to produce a quality product you deserve. We have planned the work needed to accomplish this task and are now working this plan. We would like to take this opportunity to give you a glimpse of what we are planning to present to you, Atmore, a town where opportunity abounds.
Look around you and notice the daily activities that take Atmore from sunrise to sunrise. So often so much occurs in this community that escapes our notice.
We will take a 24 hour look into what makes our town progress. You might see us at a shift changeover at a local manufacturer or at the hospital as nurses make their rounds. For one full day we will attempt to capture through photos some of the many events that make Atmore a great place to live.
You might notice things that have happened right in front of you, and you'll probably see things that we rarely catch a glimpse of, yet important to this town.
This year we will also be doing something different by letting you the reader take an active part in creating this years Horizon edition. We will be contacting some of our community's residents that represent many different walks of life that make up Atmore. Our goal is to have you contribute essays that describe what Atmore means to you. Our hope is to be able to show Atmore from your perspective, whether you are a high school student or a senior citizen.
Another aspect we will be concentrating on is the past, present and future of our town. We will explore how our town came to be, where we are now, and what is in our future. One key element in this section will be our focus on the headlines that made up the year 2003. We will retouch on some of the significant events that occurred last year in our town. We hope that this section will help illustrate the greatness that is known as Atmore.
We look forward to presenting this collection of pieces that form a view that truly represents life in our town. We hope that you will find this special edition both informative and entertaining. So countdown with us until Horizons, we have only 12 more issues to go.
