Ms. Brooke Elizabeth McGhee, daughter of David and Cyndi McGhee of Atmore has been selected as a finalist for Alabama's 24th Annual Homecoming Queen Selection. McGhee will travel to Birmingham, March 20 and 21, to compete against a number of other 2003-2004 homecoming queens throughout the state for the title of State Homecoming Queen.
Alabama's 2004 Homecoming Queen will receive a cash scholarship plus an expense paid trip to California to compete in the National finals for the title of America's Homecoming Queen. The scholarship amount received by each state finalist will be determined by how each of the finalist place in the National Selection. As a state finalist, only personal interviews and prom gown competition will be held.
"I am very excited and feel this is a great opportunity. Not only will I have the chance to travel and meet new people, but possibly receive a scholarship," said McGhee in a phone interview Monday night. "The scholarship opportunity is the main reason I am competing, since I plan to attend the University of Alabama after graduation."
Assistant Principal of Escambia County High School, Kyle Ferguson, had only good things to say about McGhee. "Brooke is a wonderful girl and seems to always have a smile. She is an exemplary student, and has a great demeanor about herself." said, Ferguson. "She is well liked by all of our students and think that she should win. She definitely has my pick."
Since its start in 1981, America's Homecoming Queen, Inc., is a non profit organization promoting education, educational travel and community service in all fifity states. Over the last 24 years the organization has awarded more than $400,000 in cash tuition scholarships, and more than $1,000,000 in awards and travel.
