The Escambia County High School Blue Devils faced Flomaton on March 2, with ECHS claiming the victory 12-2. Sophomore pitcher Johnathan McNeil recorded the win with five strike outs and one walk. He allowed four hits and two runs. Dereke Martin had three hits, John Brantley and Darius English each racked up a pair of hits and Franklin Boykin, McNeil and Trevor Daughtry each contributed a single hit.
Against Greenville on March 12 ECHS took the loss, 9-02. Junior Chris Graham pitched seven inning and recorded four K's and four earned runs off of 11 hits. Ten hits were recorded for ECHS including a single home run by Chris Graham who also batted in the second run with a double. Martin, Brantley and Daughtry contributed two hits each and Lance Stanley had one hit.
The Northview Chiefs defeated the Blue Devils 11-4 on March 13. McNeil pitched the complete game and logged five strike outs. Boykin hit a home run early in the game, tying the game 2-2 in the second. The chiefs bats proved too consistent for the error prone Devils as they took the lead in the third. Boykin also hit a triple in the game, Martin had two hits and Brantley had one.
"We cannot continue giving opponents the big inning. Every game it seems we have on inning where we commit errors that allows the other team to have a big inning. In order to win we must stop that," said Keith Nall, Head Coach of ECHS. " We are not hitting well enough to overcome a big deficit".
