Obituaries for May 23, 2004 edition of the Atmore Advance
Betty Johnson
Miss Betty Ruth Johnson, 59, died Friday, May 14, 2004 at a Pensacola hospital. Miss Johnson was a native of Repton and a longtime resident of Century. She attended the Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Johnson; brother, James Johnson; sister, Jannie Milstead.
She is survived by three brothers, Wille Blackwell of McDavid, Donnie Johnson of Bluff Springs, J.T. "John" Johnson of Century; two sisters, Doris Adams of McDaivd and Linda Faye Merchant of Bluff Springs; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 16, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Gene Stokes officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Repton.
Pallbearers were Timothy Adams, Donnie Johnson Jr., B.J. Johnson, Percy Johnson, Willie Johnson and Randy Tolin. Honorary pallbearers were Carl Tolin and Kenny Peterson.
Kenneth Fizer
Mr. Kenneth Lee "Ken" Fizer, 79, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 in Crestview. Mr. Fizer was a native of Chillicothe, Ohio and a resident of Crestview for the past 22 years. He worked at the Kennedy Space Center. He was a Nazarene Minister and in the United States Marine Corp. He attended the Crestview Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Fizer of Crestview; son, Kenneth F. "Butch" Fizer of Boise, Idaho; daughter, Lois Palmer of Orlando; stepdaughter, B.J. Maher of McDavid; brother, Dewey Fizer Jr. of Chillicothe; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. James Dye officiating. Burial followed at Ray's Chapel Cemetery.
Eastside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Overseer McCreary
Rev. Overseer James McCreary, 84, of Huntsville died Thursday, May 20, 2004 at a Huntsville Hospital. Overseer McCreary pastored Harris Street AOH Church of God in Atmore for 30 years. Services will be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel.
Janie Johnson
Ms. Janie Grimes Johnson, 57, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at a Florida hospital. Ms. Johnson was a native of Century and a resident of Century for the past 39 years. She attended the First Baptist Church of Century. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Grimes; grandson, Jonathan Borders.
She is survived by her son, Rodney Grimes of Byrneville; daughter, Erica and Jason Findley of Byrneville; three grandchildren, Adam Borders, Ashley Borders and Christian Findley.
Funeral services were Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Patrick Salter officiating. Burial followed at Poplar Dell Cemetery.
Eastside Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Bertha Milton
Ms. Bertha Milton, 75, formerly of Atmore, died Thursday, May 20, 2004 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. Services will be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel.
