Our View
The races for our city seats are upon us. As such, you'll see and hear a lot about those running for office.
Already signs have begun sprouting up in yards around town and paid political ads are sure to begin appearing in the pages of this newspaper.
But candidates will often find other ways to get their names in the local newspaper, connected to positive news, of course.
For candidates already holding office, these little announcements and photo opportunities run throughout the course of an elected official's term in office. Most often, these announcements come in the form signing a proclamation or some other form of recognizing the efforts of a member or several members of our community for their efforts.
As your local community newspaper, we try to publish as many of these as possible, for we also like to recognize the efforts of our residents and readers.
Others, who are not already elected officials, may find other ways to get their recognition in the newspaper.
Just because our city elections are upon us, does not mean the Atmore Advance is going to stop publishing these kinds of announcements. We will also, as we have done in this issue, report when someone, even a candidate for office, begins to question city officials about items of concern in the community at a public meeting.
However, we want to make it clear that our reporting on these events is not an endorsement of any candidate.
As news items continue to come in to the paper, we will publish them as we always have, however, we ask you to take a moment to consider the season we are in; the political season in Atmore, and weigh the statements and announcements of these candidates accordingly.
You won't find endorsements of local candidates in these pages, but we will make every effort to provide you with the information you need to make up your own mind when the time comes to cast your ballot.
