Atmore police nabbed a robbery suspect and recovered stolen money early Monday morning.
Police received a call from the North Main Shell station about 3:30 Monday morning from the store's employees reporting an armed robbery.
Station employees told police a man came in asking for the bathroom, but then pulled what looked like a sliver handgun and demanded the cashier hand over all the store's money, said Atmore Police Chief Jason Dean.
The man took off from the store on foot. Police units responded to the call and immediately set up a perimeter, while calling in tracking dogs from the prisons.
The dogs were unable to find the suspect after he fled down a foot path into a populated area on the east side of Main Street.
Dean said Atmore Police Lt. Elyard began working on scene and with contacts in the area. Through Elyard's efforts, the police arrested 27-year-old Kilpatrick Daley less than three hours after the crime.
Daley is a part-time resident of Atmore. He was charged with armed robbery in the 1st degree and taken to the Escambia County Detention Center.
Police also recoverd money from Daley, but the amount of money stolen or recovered was not disclosed. No firearms were recovered in the arrest, but the police are still investigating the incident, Dean said.
"This (robbery and escape) happened very quickly, but we were still able to locate the supsect," Dean said. "I'm very proud of the efforts of the police department and Lt. Elyard for his work on the case."
Members of the Escambia County Sheriff's Department, and Department of Corrections assisted.
