Obituaries for September 8, 2004 edition of the Atmore Advance
Rosie Robinson Ries
Mrs. Rosie Robinson Ries, 93, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at Atmore Community Hospital.
Mrs Ries was born July 7, 1911 in Perdue Hill to Ed and Sally Robinson. She was the youngest of 11 children.
When she moved to Atmore, she married the late George B. Ries.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, four brothers, Ed, Cleave, J.T. and Eugene Robinson; six sisters, Mazie Johnson, Susie Lamar, Pearlie Biston, Janie Taylor, Adella Anderson and Shirley Davis; two sons, George and Ernest T. Ries; two grandchildren, Gordon Johnson and Marvin Williams.
Surviving are her daughter-in-law Barbara Ries of Century; nine grandchildren Larry Johnson, Emma Richardson, Teresa Griffin and Tara Montgomery, all of Pensacola, Fla., Alfonzie and wife Amanda Taylor of Bay Minette, Cynthia Williams of Atmore, Raymond Williams of Pensacola, Fla., Pamela Lambert and Kathryn and husband Rodney Rogers of Atmore; two nieces, 16 great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at Mount Gillead Missionary Baptist Church in Atmore with Rev. Alfonzia Williams officiating. Burial followed in Stallworth Cemetery.
Robinson Christian Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Betty Ethridge
Mrs. Betty Ethridge, 83, of Cleveland, Ohio, died Sept. 5,2004.
Services to be announced.
Turner Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Edna Mae Jones
Mrs. Edna Mae Jones, 74, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004 at Atmore Nursing Care Center.
Mrs. Jones was a native of Greenville and a resident of Atmore for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Jones; three brothers Leon Boggan, Paul Boggan, James Frank Boggan, one sister, Mary Lou Boggan Thighpen; five children, Shirley Melissa Jones, Sue Lee Freeman, Frazier Jones, Jimmy Nell Jones and Ozell Jones.
She is survived by daughters, Janice Carolyn Johnson of Atmore, Rosa Curry of Jersey City, N.J., Patricia Boatwright of North Carolina, Betty Jean Brown of Bay Minette, Hattie Howard and Brenda Ann Winbush of Beaver Fall, Penn., Barbara Brown of Mobile; sons, Jesse Jones and Calvin E. Jones of Mobile, Willie C. Jones and Kaywood Jones of Beaver Fall, Penn. Jeno Jones of Atmore; sisters Edwina Durant, Area V. Haynes and Helen Boggan of Greenville; brothers Dempsey Boggan of Fort Miles Beach, Fla., Mercy Boggan of Greenville, Jimmy Boggan of Hartford, Conn., Joseph Boggan of Montogomery, John Williams of Middletown, N.Y., Jerry Boggan of Atlanta, Ga.; 38 grandchildren and 63 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Holy Community Center in Atmore, Bishop Jimmy C. Wilson officiating.
Burial will follow in Mount Shiloh Cemetery in Nokomis.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 8, from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel.

Hazel Bray Lee
Mrs. Hazel Bray, 88, of Huntsville, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, in Huntsville.
Mrs. Bray was a member of Willowbrook Baptist Church, and she loved working in her yard. She lived in Jacksonville, Fla. for 47 years before moving to Huntsville three years ago.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clifford L. Bray.
Surving are her husband, Wilson Lee of Huntsville; three daughters, Ellen and husband Edward Collier of Huntsville, Geraldine and husband Jerry Balkenhol of Michigan, Dorothy Breitling of Denver, Co.; seven grandchildren Vicki and husband Larry NeSmith of Huntsville, Lynn Thompson of Roseville, Mich., David and wife Jadeen Johnson of Parker, Co., Cameron Johnson, Brian Johnson, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Jeffrey Johnson of Atlanta, Ga. and James Balkenhol of Lafayette, La.; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 at 2 p.m. at McCullough Cemetery.
