Friday night the Escambia County Blue Devils traveled to Anderson Field to take on the Thomasville Tigers. The Tigers celebrating their homecoming this night pushed hard against the Devils with a running game of over 240-yards leading them to victory 49-13.
After taking possession, slowly the Tigers pressed down the field. With 4:16 on the clock, Jarmin Rothchild of the Tigers passed to Matthew Sparks making the catch in the end zone scoring the first touchdown of the night. The Tigers made the PAT with a kick from Pedro Quiroz. The Devils returned scoring a touchdown of their own with a halfback pass from Calvin Hartley to Kendrick McNeil who then launched a whopping 67-yard pass to Kevin Green for the Devils first touchdown. The PAT was no good. Before the quarter was up the Tigers once again scored on the Devils when Shamus Hudson scored off a carry followed by a good PAT. The Tigers dominated the second quarter as they scored three more touchdowns on the Devils with the Devils throwing two interceptions. With 7:54 on the clock, Anthony Henegar caught a pass from Rothchild. Four minutes later Marshall Knight scored the next touchdown off a carry as did Hudson with only 26 seconds left in the first half. All three touchdowns where followed by successful PATs by Quiroz, who would later make two more successful PATs before the night was over.
Less than 50 seconds in the opening of the second half the Tigers scored another touchdown on the Devils when Nick Williams ran in from the 26-yard line. Later in the third quarter the Devils was forced to punt but recovered off the fumble moving up to the Tigers 39-yard line, but couldn't move any further. Just as they did in the opening of the third, the Tigers scored early in the fourth when Dexter Law ran in from the 25-yard line with 11:49 in the game. Before the clock counted down the Tigers victory, Jarrod Jefferson, of the Devils, made an astounding 66-yard run scoring the Devils second touchdown of the night. Elliot Faircloth made a successful PAT. The game ended with Devils trailing the Tigers 13-49.
Walking off the field coach Mardye McDole said, "We are going to have to go back to square one and try to pick something up for next week's game. One things for sure we aren't going to give up."
Next Friday the ECHS Blue Devils travel to Gulf Shores for their sixth game of the season
