Obituaries for October 27, 2004 edition of the Atmore Advance
Joseph Holland
Joseph Holland died on Oct. 18, 2004.
Born Sept. 19, 1919, he was a native of Mobile, Ala. and resided in Atmore for the past six years. He was of the Baptist faith and loved gospel music. He graduated from Murphy High School and served in World War II in France. He was a carpenter and welder by trade. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Edgar and Lillie Virginia Holland; two brothers, Edgar L. Holland and George L. Holland, two brother-in-laws, Donald A. Hickman and William Ray Van Slyke and one sister-in-law, Josephine Fore Holland.
He is survived by five children, Kay Clemmons and husband, Bubba of Atmore, Faye Holland of Wilmer, Jo Holland of Mobile, Gilbert Holland and wife, Jan of Andalusia and Johnnie Holland and wife, Wanda of Mobile; eleven grandchildren, Del and Shelley Clemmons, Leslie and Jason Campbell, David Whitlock, Jimmy and Ashley Rowe, Kellie, Michael, Mark and, Kevin Holland and eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bessie Van Slyke and Mae Hickman, both of Mobile; one sister-in-law, June Holland of Ark and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, with Bro. Ronnie McCarson from Cottage Hill Baptist Church officiating.
Burial followed at the Old Whistler Cemetery.
The American Flag was presented to his daughter, Kay Clemmons. Taps was played by Justin Gates.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Jason Campbell, David Whitlock, Jimmy Rowe, Michael, Mark and Kevin Holland.

Joe McMillian
Joe McMillian, 58, of Atmore, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at Greater Mt. Baptist Church in Atmore.
Officiator and Interment to be announced by the Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 29, 2004 from 1:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M.
Turner Funeral Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.
Clara Juanita Poulsen
Clara Juanita Poulsen, 82, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004 in a local hospital.
She was a native of Oak Grove, Fla. and a resident of Walnut Hill for most of her life. She was retired from Monsanto after 23 years and attended the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include two sons, Albert Poulsen and Jerry Poulsen, both of Walnut Hill; one daughter, Nita Smith of Davisville; one brother, Otis Graham of Pensacola, Fla.; four sisters, Agnes Adams of Fort Pierce, Fla., Glady Bartley, Mary Mitchell and Luverne Graham, all of Walnut Hill; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at the Walnut Hill Cemetery with Rev. Todd Bush officiating.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004 from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Chris Poulsen, Casey Smith, Lloyd Baker, John Derik Giddens, Sam Smith and Paul Smith.

Ruby C. McKinley
Ruby C. McKinley, 94, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004 in Atmore. She was a Homemaker, born in Burntcorn, Ala. on Jan. 21, 1910, to the late Gilliam and Fannie Mae Amos Crawford, and was a resident of Bay Minette where she was a member of Perdido Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edgar McKinley and a son Gerald McKinley.
Survivors are four sons, Lawrence H. McKinley and wife, Lois and Jacob McKinley and wife, Ann, all of Pensacola, Fla., Harvey L. McKinley and wife Diane and Edgar McKinley, Jr. and wife, Gladys all of Perdido, Ala.; One daughter, Dorothy Hubbard and husband, Donald of Bay Minette, Ala.; One sister Rosie McNeil of Pensacola, F1a.; eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
Services were Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at 2:00 P.M. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Tony Gibson officiating.
Interment followed in Perdido Baptist Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers were Jacob McKinley, Timmy McKinley, Dale McKinley, Neal McKinley, Eugene Hubbard and Evan Qualls,
Visitation was held Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 1:00 P.M. until service time.

Dorothy Derby Reaves
Dorothy Derby Reaves, 63, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, in Atmore.
She was a Homemaker born in Uriah, Ala. on March 13, 1941 to the late George Washington and Fannie Mae Manning Derby and was a resident of Atmore.
Survivors are her husband, William "Bill" Reaves of Atmore; two daughters, Patricia Reeve Brown and husband, Rodney " Shorty" of Robertsdale, Ala., and Kathy Reaves Swift and husband, John of Atmore; one sister, Annette Hassebrock and husband Herman of Bratt; four brothers, Jack Darby and wife, Sherri of Atmore, Ralph Darby and wife, Katie of Davisville, Billy Darby and wife, Jackie of Walnut Hill, Fla. and Alfred Derby and wife, Opal of Dothan, Ala.; two grandchildren Kyle Lynn Brown and Chivas Thompson and wife, Lauren; one great-grandchild Samuel Reaves Thompson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. with Dr. Dewitt Allen officiating.
Interment followed in Robinsonville Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation was held Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004 at JohnsonQuimby Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

David Howard
David Howard, 61, of Atmore, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004 in Atmore Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at 2:00 P.M. at Jones Street Holiness Church.
Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at Robinson Funeral Chapel from 12 noon to 6:00 P.M.

Beverly Hart
Beverly Hart, 51, died Oct. 24, 2004 at her residence in Edmond, Okla.
She was born to J.C. and Carolyn Louise Keel on March 11, 1953 in Escambia County (Ala.) where she attended Escambia Schools, and went on to college at The University of Mobile with a BS in Chemistry (1974), and Masters in Business Administration(1994).
She worked in the Chemical industry for over 20 years. Most recently, she taught a business class at UCO. She married Kenneth Lynn Hart on September 24, 1976 and together just celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary. She was a wonderful wife, and "buddy" to her husband, and loving mother. She is preceded in death by her father, J.C. Keel. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Kenneth Lynn Hart; one son, Brent Eric Hart of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one daughter, Leigh Ann Hart of Mobile; one step-daughter, Tanya Menard of Edmond, Okla.; one grandson, Karsten Blaine Menard of Edmond, Okla.; her mother, Carolyn Louise Keel of Mobile; two sisters, Darlis Wooten and Shelvia Dean of Mobile, and many relatives and close friends. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Oct.. 27, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church in Crescent, Okla., with Pastor Paul Ingram officiating.
Burial will follow at the Crescent Cemetery
A memorial service will be held in Mobile at a later date.
