Barbara Deloise Gray
The Rev. Barbara Deloise Gray died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, in Nassau University Medical Center. A native of Atmore, she was a resident of Uniondale, N.Y., for many years. She was 62.
She was a member of Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore and later joined First Baptist Church in Uniondale. She served in many capacities, including superintendent of the Sunday School; Sunday School teacher; nurse; pastor's aide member and president; choir member and president; and youth advisor. Most recently she served the church as pastor.
She attended Escambia County Training School, theological seminary in New York, and continued her education at Hofstra University in Uniondale, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Alberta "Shirley" Flavors.
She is survived by a son, Bobby Gray of Pensacola, Fla.; a daughter, Sandra Gray of Birmingham; and a sister, Mary Louise Franklin of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Jones Street Holiness Church in Atmore with Bishop Willie L. Williams officiating. Her body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Lucius Cemetery in Atmore.
Visitation was held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, in Turner Funeral Chapel.
Turner Funeral Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.
Inez C. Payton
Inez C. Payton, 82, of Century, Fla., died Thursday, Nov. 4, in her residence.
A native of Conecuh County, she was retired from Century Elementary School, where she worked as a cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Payton.
She is survived by a daughter, Fintress Bell of Century, and two grandchildren.
Services are set for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, in Pilgrim Lodge Baptist Church in Century with the Rev. Watson, pastor, and the Rev. Koro Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in Century Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8, in Turner Funeral Chapel. Her body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Turner Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Olean Driskell Coon Phillips
Olean Driskell Coon Phillips of Bay Minette died Nov. 2, 2004, in her home. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Phillips.
She is survived by her mother, Cora Dewrell Driskell of Bay Minette; two sons, Ricky H. Coon of Stockton and Franklin B. Coon of McCullough; one daughter, Candace R. Coon of Atmore; a brother, John H. Driskell of Bay Minette; and five grandchildren, Clayton H. Coon, Bridgett M. Buckley, Jessica Tillery, Anna Wilson and Jennifer Coon.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, from the Johnson Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jimmy Dukes officiating. Burial was in the McCullough Cemetery.
Johnson Quimby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Fred G. Triplett Jr.
Former Atmore resident Fred G. Triplett Jr., of Purvis, Miss., died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Forrest General Hospital. He was 69.
Triplett was a retired retail salesman for S.H. Kress and the former owner of Trip's Variety Store. He was a member of Clear Branch Baptist Church.
He was preceded in in death by his parents, Fred and Myree Triplett, and his first wife, Audrey Triplett.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Triplett of Purvis, Miss.; two sons, Freddie Triplett, III of Purvis, Miss., and Kenny Triplett of Gulfport, Miss.; a step-son, Blake Malone of Trinity, Ala.; two daughters, Debbie Smith of Kempner, Texas, and Alesia Dueitt of Hurley, Miss.; a step-daughter, Kelly Walker of Atmore; a sister, Joyce Ryals of Fredericksburg, Va.; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Services were held Oct. 21, 2004, at Clear Branch Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg was in charge of arrangements.
