Obituaries for November 24, 2004 edition of the Atmore Advance
Mr. Marlon H. Nelson, Sr.
Mr. Marlon H. Nelson, Sr., 84, passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004 at a local hospital.
Mr. Nelson was a native of Elba, Al and a resident if Atmore since 1965. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and attended the Westend Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Nelson.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Nelson of Atmore; two sons, Donny (Sandra) Nelson of pratville and Ricky (Becky) Nelson of Atmore; his Brother, Dick Nelson of Prattville, Al; two sisters, Martha Lee Stricklin of Spanish Fort and Margie Clements of Brewton; six grandchildren and eight Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004 at 1:00p.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Gladdin Mothershed officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 22, 2004 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pall bearerers will be Kyle Nelson, Braxton Griffin, Nelson Clements, Don White, Jack Allen McGhee, and Eddie Tullis.
Honorary pallbearers are John Perkins, Billy Downey, and Cliff Blackburn.
Eastside Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Jewell Grace Sharpless Godwin
Jewell Grace Sharpless Godwin was born August 13, 1920, in Walnut Hill, Fl. to John Castle and Mattie Lala Sharpless. She passed away peacfully in the comfort of her home on Nov., 20 2004. Jewell Grace was preceded in death be her beloved husband of 67 years, James Oliver Godwin. She was a loving mother to Gwendolyn Godwin-Mann and James Craig Godwin, an adored grandmother to Kimberly (Dr. Lars Isanberg, PhD) Kamala (Randy Mote), K. Amber (Rodger Hill), Little Gwen(William Ramsey), James Tyler Godwin, Van Henry, and eight great-grandchildren. Left also to mourn are her dear brothers Roy Castle Sharpless and John Edward Sharpless (Martha Weaver); her sisters Geraldine Findley (Dr. Hubert Floyd), Maxine Bell (Dr. Jack A.), Ellafair Cotter (Clifford J.) Those who knew her were touched be her cheerful nature and quite generosity, and will sadly miss her.
She was a graduate of Atmore's Escambia County High School and in her senior year was chosen the first "Miss Atmore". Grace was a member of Warrington Baptist Church for over fifty years, where she was a Sunday school teacher.
The family wishes to acknowledge close relatives and friends, Covenant Hospice, Council on Aging of West Florida, whose unique abd special contributions helped to fulfill her desire to remain in her home in her declining years.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at 1:30p.m., with the funeral at 2:30p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, 1322 S. Main St. Atmore, Al. Burial will be at The Oak Grove Cemetery in Escambia County, FL.
Pallbearers will be Julian Godwin, Roy (Buddy) Godwin, William Ramsey, Melvin Wartenbe, W.J. McElwain, Sally Ann Tennant and Elizabeth Hopkins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Hubert Floyd Findley, Dr. Jack A. Bell, Clifford Cotter, Patricia Gilbert, and Bob and Phyllis Southers.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sally Ann Miller
Mrs. Sally Ann Miller, 64, of Satsuma, Al died Saturday Nov. 20, 2004 at a Mobile hospital. Mrs. Miller was a native of Jay, Florida but had been a resident of Satsum for the passed 28 years and was a former resident of Flomaton and was a member of the Calvery Baptist Church of Butler, Al.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband of 46 years, Raybon "Ray" Miller, of Satsum, four daughters, Debbie (Tad) Denson, of Daphne, Donna Miller, of Mobile, Laurie (Bryant) Knight, of Citronelle, Kristi (Wes Lee) Miller-Lee, of St. Louis, a brother Jack Moore, (Beth), of Pensacola, a sister, Barbara Holt, of Auburn, 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday Nov. 23, 2004 at 10a.m. at the Little Rock Church with Rev. Leo Kent and Rev. Joseph Rolison officiating. Burial will be in the Little Rock Cemetery with Eastside Chapel directing.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Taylor, Ricky Miller, Devin Lolley, Bryant Knight, Daniel Mozisek, and Wes Lee.
Visitation will be Monday Nov. 22, 2004 at Eastside Chapel from 6p.m. to 8p.m.
Eastside Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy A. White
Mrs. Dorothy A. White of Flomaton, AL died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004 in a local hospital. Mrs. White had been a resident of the Flomaton community since 1951 coming from Atmore, AL. During her working years, she worked for RSVP in Brewton, AL. Mrs. White was a member of Little Escambia Baptist Church.
She is surived by one son Allen R. and Sharlyne White of Mobile, AL. One daughter Naomi W. and James Strength of Flomaton, AL. One brother Charles Agee of Atmore, AL. Three grandchildren Steven A. White of McDavid, FL, J.R. Strength of Flomaton, AL, and Daniel Wright Of Mobile, AL. One great grandchild Cassidy White of Mobile, AL.
Services were Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004 at 2:00p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Lee officiating. Burial will follow at the Little Rock Cemetery in Flomaton, AL. Visitation was Monday Evening from 6:00p.m. until 9:00p.m at the Flomaton Funeral Home.

Rosie Lee Baggett
Mrs. Rosie Lee Baggett, age 80, of Atmore, AL died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004 in Pensacola FL. She was retired from Vanity Fair Mills as a machine operator, born in Sandmountain, TN to the late John T. and Lena Stillwell Arrington.
She is preceded in death by her husband Claude H. Baggett, her daughter Carolyn Baggett and a son Claude Baggett, Jr.
Survivors are three sons Gene H. Baggett and wife Marilyn of Pensacola, FL, Kenneth Baggett and wife Jeanette of Walnut Hill, FL and Frankie Baggett and wife Jeanne of Wawbeek, AL. Ten grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004 at 10:00a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Frankie Baggett and Kenneth Baggett officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Rock Baptist Cemetery .
Pallbears will be the grandson's.
Family will receive friends Tuesday evening Nov. 23, 2004 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m.

Hazel Davis
Ms. Hazel Davis, age 88 of Atmore, AL died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004 at her residence. She was retired from the Dry Goods Store as a sales clerk, born in Canoe, AL on April 9, 1915 to the late Leon T. and Sudie McKenzie Davis.
She is preceded in death by one brother Thurston Davis. Four sisters Mable Davis
Survivors are one sister, Rachel Davis of Atmore Two Nephews Buddy Lowery and wife Cathey of Atmore, AL and Steve Cooper; four sisters, Mable Davis, Grace Lowery, Ruby Seil Cooper, Euline Gates. Numerous other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held Nov. 22, 2004, in Oak Hill Cemetery with Bro. Mike Grindle officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 6475 Van Buren St. Suite 201, Dapne, AL 36526.
