As the college football season nears its end, there are five unbeaten teams with the top three in the BCS looking for their shot at the National Championship. USC, Oklahoma, and Auburn are all making their arguments for the right to play in the BCS Championship Game. Oklahoma and Auburn still have conference championship games and the other key games need to be played. The ACC or Atlantic Coast Conference won't be decided until Miami, Virginia Tec, and Virginia play their remaining conference games.
Although Michigan lost to Ohio State, they win the three-way tie for the Big Ten by virtue of Iowa defeating Wisconsin. All three teams are 9-2.
Utah and Boise State, also undefeated, make their run to the BCS along with the Big Three. Many college football critics have said that Utah doesn't belong in the BCS picture, but at 11-0, the Utes have proven them wrong and that they are for real.
In other action, Clemson defeated South Carolina 29-7 and had a brawl in Lou Holtz's final game at Columbia. Steve Spurrier will be taking the reins in 2005. Also, in Tallahassee, Ron Zook who took over at Florida when Spurrier resigned, defeated the Florida State Seminoles. It was the first time in 18 years that Florida has defeated Florida State in Doak Campbell Stadium. Not even Spurrier, who many consider the greatest head coach ever at UF, defeated FSU in Tallahassee. IN 1994, the Gators had the Noles down 31-3 in the fourth quarter and Seminole quarterback, Danny Kanell led them to a tie.
And, for all the Crimson Tide fans, your football team will be playing in a bowl game for the first time in a few years. Although the Tide lost the Iron Bowl, they have a lot to look forward to next season.
