Two killed in area wrecks

Two traffic accidents in the Atmore area claimed the live of two people Saturday.
The first accident took place at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Medical Park Drive shortly after 6 p.m., according to the Atmore Police Department.
James R. Hartley was riding his bicycle south on Medical Park Drive, crossing Hwy. 31 when he was struck by a truck driven by Charles E. Addison of Castleberry.
Hartley was killed in the incident. Atmore Police are investigating the incident. Hartley was wearing dark clothes while riding his bicycle at the time of the incident, according to Police Chief Jason Dean.
About two hours later, an accident on AL 21 near the Creek Bingo Palace took the life of one man and seriously injured three others.
Anthony Shumac, 39, of Peterman was killed in a traffic collision with a 1999 Ford driven by Daniel Gorum Jr. of Huxford, according to Highway Patrol information.
Tawaka Bright, 24, Randy Huston, 45, and Aretha Howard, 52, were passengers in Shumac's car. All three were taken by Lifeflight to U.S.A Medical Center. Gorum suffered injuries and was treated at the scene.
The Alabama Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
