An Atmore murder case leads the docket of Twenty-First Judicial Circuit Criminal Court cases slated to begin next week.
Assistant Distict Attorney Steve Billy said the state's murder case against Paderick Marshall of Atmore is expected to begin on Monday.
Marshall is charged in the murder of Randy Mitchell. The two men had spent the day at the same residence when they apparently argued and Marshall hit Mitchell in the head with a board.
Mitchell ws taken to the hospital, where he later died as a result of the single blow. Assistant District Attoreny Reo Kirkland will prosecute the case for the state.
Marshall is being represented by Earnest R. White.
The state has 123 cases on the December court docket, ranging from Marshall's murder trial, to charges of robbery, rape, theft by deception, burglary, assault, kidnapping, and DUI. A total of 212 potential jurors ahave been called to jury duty.
Billy said a number of the cases should be settled before court convenes on Monday.
Circuit Judges Joe Brogden and Circuit Judge Brad Byrne will hear the cases.
