A weekend accident on Interstate 65 left one person dead, another seriously injured and a lot of unanswered question for Alabama State Troopers.
The wreck occurred at approximately 5:35 p.m. Sunday evening when a 2003 Hyundai Elantra being driven by Elizabeth Noel Lutz of Columbiana careened into the median of the busy freeway killing the passenger, 20-year-old Thomas Ellis Richbourg III of Grand Bay.
The car left the road about nine miles south of Atmore exit 57, rolled, and landed on its roof in a ditch. No other cars were involved, but Lutz suffered severe injuries and was transported to a hospital in Mobile.
"The driver was injured and was transported by Life Flight to Mobile," Doris Teague, a spokeswoman for the department of public safety, said Monday morning.
Officials are still trying to determine the cause of the accident.
"The wreck is under investigation by State Troopers," Teague said. "They may not release additional information until the investigative report is completed."
No other information will be released until investigators complete their final report.
