For Poarch Creek Tribal members there is still time to vote for your tribal council representatives.
Voting has been going on for close to a month, but there are still almost four days left to vote.
"The walk-in voting is held here in the administration building," Poarch Community Relations director Sharon Delmar said. "Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., we have walk-in voting."
Every May Poarch holds an election for three council seats.
"We have a nine-member tribal council and we have a tribal election every year," Delmar said. "A term is three years. So therefore we vote for three each year. We have three offices that are up for election each year."
This year's election is especially big since Tribal Chairman Eddie Tullis is up for reelection.
After the new council members are elected the council will decide who is to be chairman.
"There is a special called council meeting June 16 where the council will elect officers," Delmar said. "(A council member is) elected Tribal Chairman afterwards and the other officers are chosen afterwards as well."
A large number of people are vying for the three open spots.
"We have 13 candidates running actually," Delmar said. "Saturday June 4 is the tribal election from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. That is held at the Community Service Center, also known as the SAIL Center. The winners will be announced at 7 p.m. that night."
There are several rules that candidates must follow to be elected.
"To run for an office you have to be a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians," Delmar explained. "You have to be at least 21 years of age and you can't have been convicted of a felony."
To vote for new tribal members you must be a Poarch tribal member and you must produce a government-issued ID card. You must also be 18 years old or older.
