Atmore crushes Covington twice

The Atmore 16-19 Advanced Babe Ruth started their season off in style Saturday afternoon at Tom Byrne Park, completely decimating the Covington County team in a doubleheader by a combined score of 28-1.
There was never room for doubt in the first game, as Atmore plated nine runs in the bottom half of the first inning to take a commanding 9-0 lead en route to a 14-1 win.
Seventeen batters came to the plate for Atmore on the day, and all the starters were pulled by the end of the third inning.
J.J. Cutler batted 1-for-1 in two plate appearances in the first inning and scored both times. Kenny McDonald was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Jordan Drew batted 2-for-2 with a run scored. Frank Boykin was 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored. Darius English batted 1-for-2 on the day with a run scored. Joe Drew was 1-for-1 in his only plate appearance in the first inning and scored a run. Norris Brooks batted 1-for-2 on the day and also scored a run. Alvin Simmons batted 2-for-2 after coming off the bench and scored a run. Matthew Reynolds batted 2-for-2 with a run scored. Michael Rolin was 1-for-1 with a run scored; Jeremy Greenwell was 2-for-2 with two runs scored; and Derrick Holland scored a run in his only plate appearance.
The second game of the doubleheader was no better for Covington County, with the Atmore team taking another mercy-rule decision by a score of 14-0.
Jordan Drew led Atmore with three runs scored on 2-for-2 batting. He also added a double. Kenny McDonald, Frank Boykin, Darius English, and Josh Montel all added two runs on the day for Atmore; and J.J. Cutler and Norris Brooks provided the other Atmore runs.
