Next time we may not be so lucky

Tropical Storm Arlene passed through this weekend with a whimper, packing a much smaller force than most experts anticipated.
Atmore residents spent the latter part of last week preparing in earnest for the worst, a clear reaction to the problems caused by Hurricane Ivan last year.
While this storm may have been less powerful than expected, we hope Atmore residents don't take future storms lightly. More are sure to come, if not this year then sometime in the not-too-distant future.
If there is one thing that Ivan taught us, it would be that preparedness is the best way to go. It also showed that proper safety measures should be taken at all times, so hopefully we won't see photos of girls frolicking in the Gulf of Mexico in the midst of the next storm in any area newspapers.
While Arlene may have been a breeze, we here at the Advance hope that no one in this city takes anything for granted next time.
