James Emmanuel "Joe" Black
McDAVID – Joe Emmanuel Black, 39, passed away suddenly August 20 at his home.
He was born December 19, 1965 in Century to Diane Black and the late Rupert Black.
Joe lived in the McDavid area his whole life. He liked to work with flowers and his model trains. He was a member of Ray's Chapel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rupert and Idell Black, and his father, Rupert Black, Jr. He is survived by his mother, Diane Black of Pensacola; two sisters, Gail Williamson and her husband, David, of Milton, and Rebecca Black and her husband, Jean, of McDavid; a special friend, David H. Zhang of Gulf Breeze; two aunts, Joan Brooks and her husband, Ed, and Christine Truesdell and her husband, Raymond, all of McDavid; a nice and nephew, Ashlyn and Owen Williamson of Milton; and numerous cousins and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 25, at 10 a.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Dexter Truesdell officiating. Graveside services will follow at Ray's Chapel Cemetery in Bogia, Fla. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 24, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Andy Capps, David Williamson, Billy Williamson, Brad Brooks, John Brooks, and Scott Capps. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Williamson, D.C. Diamond, and David "Hong" Zhang.
Julia Cole Gulsby
PENSACOLA – Mrs. Julia Cole Gulsby, 82, of Atmore passed away Monday, August 22.
She was a homemaker, born in Conecuh County on September 19, 1922 to the late James Anderson and Ida Simmons Cole. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church.
Mrs. Gulsby was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Gulsby. She is survived by one son, Jim Gulsby and his wife, Sharron, of Lexington, S.C.; one daughter, Linda Helland of Pensacola; two sisters, Ruth Marshall and Irene Hall, both of Atmore; two grandchildren, Jim Gulsby II and his wife, Beth, of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and Julie Greiner and her husband, Bill, of Chesapeake, Va.; and four great-grandchildren, Jessica Gulsby, Colin Gulsby, Sydney Greiner, and Lauren Greiner.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 25, at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Garland officiating. Graveside services will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 25, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 1:30 p.m. until service time.

Dorothy Mae Brooks
PENSACOLA – Miss Dorothy Mae Brooks, 55, of Uriah passed away Wednesday, August 17, at Baptist Hospital.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Uriah and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Willie Mae Lett, her father, David Brooks, and her grandfather, Sam Lett, Sr. She is survived by five sisters, Shirley Davison and Donnie Evans, both of Uriah, Annie Laura Bass of Pensacola, Carolyn Carpenter of Detroit, and Donnell Brooks of Atmore; and five brothers, Willard W. Brooks of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and David Brooks Jr., Sam Lett Jr., Jeffrey Brooks, and Robert White, all of Atmore.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 24, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Uriah with Rev. Darryl Baker officiating. Graveside services will follow at Uriah Community Cemetery in Uriah. The family received friends Tuesday, August 23, at Turner Funeral Chapel at 83 Westbrook Lane.
Turner Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Sam Brooks Jr.
MONROEVILLE – Mr. Sam Brooks Jr., 71, of Frisco City passed away Sunday, August 21, at Monroe County Hospital.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Monroe County and a member of the Baptist Faith. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #702. Mr. Brooks worked as an office manager with a gas company.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Voncile Brooks of Frisco City; a son, Danny Brooks and his wife, Janice, of Atmore; a daughter, Brenda Brooks Singleton and her husband, Sammy, of Excel; two step-sons, David Dean of Mobile and Jason Dean of Atmore; two brothers, Chris Brooks of Molino and Frank Brooks of Sutter City, Calif.; four step-grandchildren and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 23, at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Mark McCullough officiating. Graveside services followed in Brooks Cemetery in Megargel. Visitation was held Tuesday at the funeral home.
Lawrence Drew
PENSACOLA – Mr. Lawrence Drew, 83, of Atmore passed away Saturday, August 20.
He was a devoted husband and father and served in the 755th Battalion in World War II as a Captain in the U.S. Army and received several medals including the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Aplin Drew. He is survived by two sons, Lonnie Drew of Birmingham and Steve Drew and his wife, Felicia, of Brewton; three brothers, Fred Drew of McCullough, Edward Drew of Pensacola, and Edson Drew of Mobile; two sisters, Lula Demko of Bay Minette and Marie Wooten of Atmore; two grandsons, Michael Drew of Flomaton and Johnathan Drew of Brewton; and one great-granddaughter, Victoria Drew.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 23, at Atmore Memorial Chapel with Bro. Gary Aldridge officiating. Graveside services followed in McCullough Cemetery. The family received friends Monday, August 22, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Wayne Drew, Wayne Dean, Earl Weaver, Scott Brooks, Roy Burnham, and Jonathan Drew. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Scott and Michael Drew.

Earnest J. Gilmore
PENSACOLA – Mr. Earnest J. Gilmore, 70, of Century passed away Sunday, August 21.
He was the owner or Gilmore Mobile Home Movers, born on July 10, 1935 in Century to the late Benjamin Tate and Clara Adell Hobbs Gilmore. He was a member of Ray's Chapel Baptist Church.
Mr. Gilmore was preceded in death by a son, James R. Milstead, a brother, Louis Gilmore, and two sisters, Catherine Garrett and Perlie Mae Miller. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Frances Gilmore of Century; one son, Gordan Gilmore of Phenix City; one step-son, Robert Atwell of Century; two daughters, Karen Hardy of Century and Cindy Chandler of Bratt; one step-daughter, Debby Hoptins of Pensacola; two sisters, Clara Bell Steadham and Dorothy Steadham, both of McDavid; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 24, at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Endfinger officiating. Graveside services will follow in Ray's Chapel Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday, August 23, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Jeff Steadham, Danny Steadham, David Steadham, Fred Hicks, Mark Digmon, and Jeffery Steadham. Honorary pallbearers will be the senior citizens' class at Ray's Chapel.

Leona Findley Hammons
MILTON – Mrs. Leona Findley Hammons, 97, of Pensacola passed away Saturday, August 20.
She was a homemaker, born in Escambia County, Ala., on February 21, 1908 to the late Daniel Richard and Sudie Lee Wearren Findley. She was a long-standing member of Baars Street Methodist Church in Pensacola. She was an avid gardener, and served as one of the early presidents off the Pensacola Garden Club. Many years ago she served on the board of the private Canoe Freewill Cemetery. She was a loving caretaker to all of her brothers and sisters who died before her.
Mrs. Hammons was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Hammons; four sisters, Helen Mezza, Olivia Black, Vera Norwood, and Annie Pearl Greene; and five brothers, Hillary Dewitt Findley, Leeman Findley, Daniel Findley, Clark "Bud" Findley, and William E. Findley. She is survived by one sister, Ruth Abrams Kearley of Canoe; 23 nieces and nephews; and many extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 25, at 10 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with Rev. George Morrison officiating. Graveside services will follow in Canoe Freewill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 24, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6:30-8 p.m.

Carol Boutwell Beasley
FLOMATON – Mrs. Carol Boutwell Beasley, 60, of Flomaton passed away Saturday, August 20.
She was a native of Mobile and a lifetime resident of Flomaton. She attended the Moyeville Baptist Church.
Mrs. Beasley is survived by her husband, Charles Beasley of Flomaton; her daughter Kelly Dove and her husband, Ronnie, of Flomaton; two step-sons, David Beasley and his wife, Connie, of Danville, Kent., and Ashley Beasley and his wife, Tracey, of Flomaton; two grandchildren, Shelbi and Tyler Dove; five step-grandchildren, Shea, Tabitha, Miranda, Connie, and Courtney; two brothers, Jerry Lambeth of Flomaton and Johnny Lambeth of Foley; her sister, Sue Bryan of Tuscumbia; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 23, at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Patterson officiating. Graveside services followed at Traveler's Rest Cemetery. The family received friends Monday, August 22, at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Shorty Hardy, Brady Lambeth, Jason Lambet, Tuffy Boutwell, Judd Lambeth, and Don Lambeth. Honorary pallbearers were Virgil Armstrong, Terry Boutwell, June Boutwell, Mike Boutwell, Micky Boutwell, Boogie Boutwell, and Huey Knowles.
