Come out and support area football teams
Football season is upon us.
Escambia County, Escambia Academy, and Northview will all officially open their 2005 campaigns Friday night.
All three programs are in one stage or another of rebuilding this season. The Blue Devils of ECHS are trying to rebuild a once proud program that has become an afterthought over the last decade. A new head coach, a few new assistant coaches, and a new attitude have all been brought to the high school, and now is the time to find out if those can translate into a winning program.
Escambia Academy isn't suffering from any lack of stability, but they are replacing 12 departed seniors, all of whom contributed significant playing time last season. Early indications point to the Cougars not suffering a significant dropoff, but it will be interesting to see where they go.
The Northview Chiefs, after experiencing early success after opening the school 10 years ago, have fallen on hard times recently. After on 0-7 season in 2004, second-year head coach Cody Keene has worked the Chiefs hard in the offseason to bring them back toward respectability.
The Cougars and Chiefs will both open at home Friday night at 7:30, while the Blue Devils will make the short trek up Hwy. 31 to face T.R. Miller in Brewton. With three games this close, everyone in the area should be sure to go see their favorite team. These young men all need our support, and we hope the town will get behind them this football season.
