While the effects of Hurricane Katrina may not have been felt here in Escambia County, they did none-the-less effect the sports scene.
The Escambia County High School Blue Devils' game with UMS-Wright, originally scheduled to be played at 7 p.m. Friday night, will now be played Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
Mobile County EMA directors had prevented all Mobile County public schools from playing any games during the weekend, but UMS-Wright is not a private school. The two teams had planned to move the game to Saturday afternoon but the game was eventually pushed back.
Moving this game back to Tuesday also effects the Blue Devils' home opener with Andalusia slated for Friday. That game will now be moved back to Saturday night, September 10, at 7 p.m.
In other Katrina-related news:
Junior Varsity games for Escambia County Middle School and Escambia Academy were cancelled during the week. ECMS was slated to travel to Monroeville Monday night, but the storm was still traveling through the area. EA was scheduled to travel to Monroe Academy Tuesday night, but power outages prevented that game from being played. It has been rescheduled for the final game of the season.
Northview volleyball went on as scheduled, taking on Jay Thursday night. Full coverage of that match-up will be provided in Wednesday's Advance.
Northview made an attempt to postpone its game with Sneads to Saturday night, but eventually settled on playing the game at the originally scheduled time.
All other area sporting events will go on without a hitch.
