Earnestine Curry Thomas
NOKOMIS – Mrs. Earnestine Curry Thomas, 61, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005 at Mobile Infirmary. She was a native of Nokomis.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church in Nokomis. Burial will be held at Church Cemetery in Nokomis. Public viewing will be from noon to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, 2005 at Christian Memorial Funeral Chapel. Christian Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Annie Ruth Hall
NOKOMIS – Mrs. Annie Ruth Hall, 77, passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2005 in Atmore.
Mrs. Hall was a native of Mineola, and a resident of Nokomis for most of her life. She was a retired employee of Vanity Fair Mills, an avid quilter, loved crafts and ceramics and attended the Nokomis Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Gordon and Dawn Hall Sr. of Moss Point, Miss. and Glenn Hall of Walnut Hill, Fla.; her daughter, Becky Hall and Larry Gunter, Sr. of Gauiter, Miss.; eight grandchildren, Gordon Hall, Jr., Robbie Hall, Angela Gunter Starr, Bo Gunter, Jessica Hall Brewer, Jacob Hall, Jonathon Hall, and Matthew Hall; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, John Kirchharr of Monroeville and J.W. Kirchharr of Bay Minette and five sisters, Mary Lee Skinner of Bay Minette, Thelma Bouler of Atmore, Bernice O'Neal of Gonzalez, Fla., Lois Evers of Bay Minette and Daisy Roland of Pensacola, Fla.
Funeral Services were held Friday, Sept. 23, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Wilson officiating.
Burial followed at Nokomis Cemetery
Pallbearers were: Gordon Hall, Jr. Robbie Hall, Bo Gunter, Jacob Hall, Jonathon Hall, Matthew Hall, Gene Starr and Jason Brewer.
Harbert Earl Hall
NOKOMIS – Mr. Harbert Earl Hall, 76, passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2005 in Atmore.
Mr. Hall was a native of Freemanville and a resident of Nokomis for most of his life. He was a former employee of Ingalls Shipyard for 25 years, a former employee of Hall's Texaco at Nokomis and a former employee of Atmore Trucker's Association. He was an avid gardener loved arts and craft woodworks and attended the Nokomis Baptist Church.
Survivors include, two sons, Gordon and Dawn Hall, Sr. of Moss Point, Miss. and Glenn Hall of Walnut Hill, Fla.; her daughter, Becky Hall and Larry Gunter Sr. of Gauiter, Miss.; eight grandchildren, Gordon Hall, Jr., Robbie Hall, Angela Gunter Starr, Bo Gunter, Jessica Hall Brewer, Jacob Hall, Jonathon Hall, and Matthew Hall; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Hilton Hall of Walnut Hill, Fla., and Gwen Hall of Nokomis; three sisters, Nola Wise of Spanish Fort, Jean Miller of Semmes, and Joyce H. Hollingsworth of Nokomis.
Funeral Services were held Friday, Sept. 23, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Wilson officiating.
Burial followed at Nokomis Cemetery
Pallbearers were: Gordon Hall, Jr. Robbie Hall, Bo Gunter, Jacob Hall, Jonathon Hall, Matthew Hall, Gene Starr and Jason Brewer.
Luther Croley
CASTLEBERRY – Mr. Luther Croley, 77, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005 in Brewton. Mr. Croley was a native of Uriah, and a resident of Castleberry for the past 33 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge Downing 580, a town councilman for two terms, a member of the Castleberry Volunteer Fire Department and a Deacon at the Castleberry Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Lois Croley of Castleberry; his son, Luther Joseph Croley of Castleberry; two daughters, Mary Fay Abbott of Castleberry and Janet Sue Croley of Bermuda; two grandchildren, Tracey Luther and Christina Lee Parr of Castleberry and Amanda Marie Williams of Castleberry; three great grandchildren, Zack Williams, Sonny Hurst and R.J. Hurst; and his brother, E.L. and Dot Croley of Century, Fla.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 at 3 p.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Godbee and Rev. Adam Armstrong officiating.
Burial followed at Godwin Cemetery.
Eastside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Willie Matthews
ATMORE – Mr. Willie Matthews, 85, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005 at his residence. He was a native of Coy and a resident of Atmore for many years. He was a member of Elizabeth Holiness Baptist Church and was a deacon of the church. Mr. Matthews retired from Monsanto in Pensacola, Fla as a dietician.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Mae Matthews; his mother and father, Betty Primm and Clarence Matthews.
He is survived by five daughters, Willie-Lee Matthews Williams of Mobile; Cora Matthews, Charlotte Matthews, Karen (Marion) Orange all of Atmore; Mary (Marcell) Roberson of Sierra Vista, Fla; three sons, Robert Matthews of Mobile; Clarence (Lucille) Matthews of Atmore; and Cary (Clara) Matthews of Brewton; one brother, Daniel (Janice) Dortch of Mobile; 33 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Atmore with the Rev. Dan Abner officiating. Burial was held at Stallworth Cemetery in Atmore. Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of all arrangements.
Fred Simpson
CENTURY – Mr. Fred Simpson, 61, passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2005 at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, FL. He was a resident of Century, Fla.
Simpson was born to the late Fred Lee Simpson and Nettie Lee Stallworth Simpson.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Simpson; seven children, Kenny (Latonya) Simpson, Gary (Virginia) Simpson, Tim (Nicole) Simpson, Tracy (Clarence) Barnett, Tina (Sam) Taylor, Patricia (Rickey) Hall all of St. Louis, Mo and Tommy (Azlie) Finklea of Pasagoula, Ms; a devoted stepmother, Leola Dortch Simpson of Century, Fla; eleven brothers and sisters, Kalvin (Peggy) Simpson of Greenville, N.C., Charlie Fred (Rosie) Simpson, Ronnie (Beverly) Simpson, and Willie (Barbara) Dortch all of Century, Fla, Vera (Willie F. ) Bogan of Atmore, Dorothy Simpson of Pensacola, Fla., Flora (Joel) Kelly and Betty Simpson of N.Y., Tina Poole of Pensacola, Fla Minnie (Ernest) Gandy of Century, Fla., Veronica (Clarence) Brown of Century, Fla and Maxine Simpson of Pensacola, Fla.; brother and sisters-in-law, Annie Ruth, Eva Pearl, Lois Virginia , Billy George, Bobby Ray, all of St. Louis, Mo, Claudia and Percy Lee of Century, Fla; 28 grandchildren; a host of aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; a special friend and cousin, Jr. Lowe of Century, Fla.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 at Christian Memorial Chapel in Atmore with Elder Tommie Thomas Sr. officiating. Pallbearers were nephews and friends. Flower bearers were his nieces and friends.
Cleve Jewel Taylor Sr.
FLOMATON – Mr. Cleve Jewel Taylor Sr. passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005 in Brewton. Mr. Taylor was a native of Byrneville, Fla., a former resident of Bratt, Fla. and a resident of Flomaton for the past few years.
Survivors include: his son, Louis Cleveland Taylor of Bratt, Fla.; his daughter, Shirley Wambles of Dothan; caregiver, Maxine Luker of Flomaton; and a number of grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Brown officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. Eastside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
