EA JV finishes winless

The Escambia Academy JV Cougars traveled to Grove Hill Tuesday night looking to pick up their first win in their season finale against Clarke Prep.
Unfortunately, much like their previous five contests, the Cougars were unable to come out on top in a 34-14 loss.
Cameron McGhee and Jon Dean scored the two Cougar touchdowns; and McGhee also added the two-point conversion.
EA JV head coach Mitchell Hughes said the team showed improvement during the game, but it wasn't enough to come out on top.
"We were doing good on our first drive," Hughes said. "We were looking like a varsity squad out there. We moved 40 yards or so down the field on fullback traps and down g and we got a 47 yard touchdown called back. It went downhill from there. It seemed like every week we got a little better. If we just found another team to play we might get a win."
The loss closed out the JV season for the Cougars, but Hughes said he was confident many of those JV players would be big contributors for EA next season.
"Those guys showed a lot of heart and a lot of character," he said. "They're pretty tough. They stayed upbeat all season. The kids that are on the varsity team that are also playing junior varsity got a lot of valuable experience. Those seventh and eighth graders learned a lot. We'll probably do a little spring practice this time and come out next year and be a lot better."
