Escambia County Middle School football fans witnessed a wild one last Tuesday night.
Despite leading 26-8 at halftime, the Eagles (5-1-1) nearly gave it away as Carver scored 16 unanswered points in the second half giving the home team a scare. ECMS pulled out the win 26-24.
"Carver was a good team," ECMS head coach Dale Jones said. "They hit us hard and ran the football well. Our team however played very well. They have played hard every ballgame this season. They are a wonderful group of young men, who work well together."
Carver jumped out to an early lead taking the opening kick off 80 yards for the score. ECMS answered back quickly when Kingston Craft connected with Deauntae Woods for a touchdown early. Lawrence Arnold caught the two-point conversion to tie the game at 8-8.
The Eagles later scored on a 50-yard Reginald Yelder touchdown run, Bryant Chambers interception return and a Douglass Oliver run to go up 26-8 at the half.
ECMS' defense held strong in the second half to hold off a strong Carver comeback.
