A 75-year-old Atmore resident was shaken up last Friday after a pistol-totting purse-snatcher robbed her.
Dora McNeal was walking to some relatives' houses at around 8:24 a.m. on Dec. 9 when a black male approached her armed with a handgun stole her purse and made a quick getaway on foot.
"We made contact with miss McNeal that an unknown male had approached her as she was walking down the street and snatched her purse," Atmore Police Department chief Jason Dean said. "He had a weapon in his hand, a gun, and snatched her purse and left."
Once on the scene, APD officers took a statement from McNeal and quickly called in the Department of Corrections K-9 unit from Fountain Correctional facility to track the suspect. After approximately 45 minutes, the dogs lost the trail of the robber.
"Fortunately, she was not harmed in any way," Dean said. " She was shaken up a bit though."
No arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon, but Dean said the investigation is still ongoing.
The robbery suspect is described as a black male wearing blue jeans and a leather jacket with a hood. He is facing first-degree armed robbery charges.
