Fog is believed to be a factor in an early morning collision that sent one man to the hospital in critical condition, according to officials.
Around 6:30 a.m. Friday, an older model Nissan Sentra ran underneath an 18-wheeler loaded with gravel on Butler Street in the Robinsonville community.
The driver of the car had to be extricated from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life. The fog hindered Life Flight from landing, requiring the victim to be transported by ambulance to Atmore Community Hospital. The driver of the gravel truck was not harmed.
The Alabama State Troopers responded as well as the Escambia County Sheriffs Office, Poarch Police Department, Little Rock Fire Department, McCullough Fire Department and Flomaton Fire Department. The accident remains under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.
The identity and condition of the driver was unknown at press time.
