There was something fishy about the weekend Bratt, Fla. natives Lamont Godwin and Paul Lee spent in Mobile.
The duo of fishermen competed in a Fishing Fever Tournament March 31-April 1 and came away $1,704 richer. Godwin and Lee entered the bass fishing tournament as a team and caught a fish that weighed in at 29.88 pounds.
"It was a lot of fun and fishing has always been about the fun for me," Lee, an X-ray technician with D.W. McMillian in Brewton, said.
Fishing is what these two men do to relax from a hard week of work.
"We love to fish and any day is better spent fishing rather than working," Godwin, a water operator with Bratt-Davisville Water System in Davisville, said.
The two men have been part of various fishing clubs in the past, including the Atmore Bass Club for four years, the Outcasters Bass Club in Saraland and the Northwest Florida Bass Club for 15 years.
"We were always part of the management in any club we were in, so it is nice to be just two of the guys in Fishing Fever," Godwin said.
In the competition two weeks ago Godwin and Lee competed against 129 boats. They said Fishing Fever puts on about 10 tournaments per year and this last one was the third of the year, with the next tourney arriving in the first weekend in May.
"Fishing is our main hobby and I think it is the only thing we are good at," Lee said with a smile.
The check for $1,704 was presented to the men on April 2 and Lee said he hopes they can win some more money in the upcoming tournaments.
