Loraine E. Byrd
Mrs. Loraine E. Byrd, 75, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2006 at a local hospital.
She was a native of Robinsonville, a former resident of Wallace from the age of 6 years old until the 9th grade and a resident of Atmore since 1944. She loved to fish, an avid Alabama sports fan, was a school bus driver, a member of the Atmore City Council, worked at Sears, a member of the SAIL program, instrumental in getting buses for the center, supported the Babe Ruth and Little League of Atmore and Walnut Hill, Fla., and attended the Atmore First Assembly of God Church. Proceeded in death by her husband, Oscar Byrd, her parents, Henson and Nettie English, an infant sister and a sister, Carolyn Perkins.
Survivors include her son, David Oscar Byrd of Atmore; her daughter, Anita Loraine Daniel of Perdido; three grandchildren, Jessica Daniel, Rebecca Daniel and Derrick Daniel all of Perdido; her sister, Willonese Williamson of Foley; and a good friend, Myrtle Combs of Atmore.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Robinsonville Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Dukes officiating.
A celebration of her life was held on Monday, April 24, 2006 at Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. The family will accept flowers or contributions may be made to the Atmore SAIL program.
Thomas "Big Wayne" Williams
Thomas "Big Wayne" Williams, 50, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2006 at a Mobile hospital.
Mr. Williams was a native and lifelong resident of Uriah, a tugboat captain for Maryland Marie, attended Uriah First Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Buddy and Edna Williams.
Survivors include his son, Thomas Wayne "Tommy" Williams Jr. of Uriah; three brothers, Carl Ray Williams of Lehi, Utah, Albert Edward Williams and John Russell "Rusty" Williams, both of Uriah; his sister, Peggy Marie Williams of Uriah; a number of nieces and nephews; and a number of great-nieces and great- nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Uriah Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Claude Thompson
ATMORE – Mr. Claude Thompson, age 64 of Atmore, died Thursday, April 20, 2006 at Atmore Community Hospital.
He was a native of Atmore and was a pool builder. His parents, Percy Thompson and Mary Watson and his sisters, Agnes Vickers and Alice Thompson, preceded him in death.
He is survived by one daughter, Mary Blondena Thompson of Pasadena, Calif.; one son, Claude Lewis Thompson Jr of Pasadena, Calif.; five sisters, Maude Thomas of Atmore, Annise Watson-Smith of Detroit, Mich., Jacqueline Watson of Hamden, Conn., Priscilla Dixon of Flomaton and Linda Richardson of Rancho Cucamongo, Calif.; five brothers, Floyd Watson of Walnut Hill, Fla., Edd Watson of Mobile, Willie Earl Thompson of Meridian, Miss., Percy Thompson of Bay Minette and Edd Watson of Hainesville, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Hawthorne officiating. Burial services will follow in Stallworth Cemetery in Atmore. Public viewing will be held on Friday, April 28, 2006 from 2 to 8:30 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home Chapel.
