On Saturday, May 13th, Sheriff's deputies had a successful "Click-it or Ticket" campaign. While on patrol on Highway 31 in Nokomis, a deputy sheriff pulled over a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. After running a routine check on the driver, a "hit conformation" came back that the driver was wanted for Escape out of Baldwin County. The driver, James Johnson, of Lottie Road in Baldwin County was wanted on charges of Escape third degree, Resisting Arrest, and Failure to Appear on a Failure to Stop Sign charge.
According to Major Mike Murphy, James was arrested and transported immediately to the Baldwin County Jail in Bay Minette. "James would not have been captured today, if deputies were not working "Click-it or Ticket". Two extra deputies were on patrol today with monies being reimbursed by the "Click-it or Ticket" grant", said Murphy.
The Escambia County Sheriff's Office is a continued participant in the grant administered by the Southwest Alabama Medical Center in Dothan through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. According to Major Murphy, the grants were approved on May 1st and more deputies will be patrolling the highways in the upcoming months.
