Current office-holders appeared to be holding off challengers better known for their scandals Tuesday night.
Gov. Bob Riley easily beat challenger Roy Moore for the Republican nomination Tuesday night, while Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley held her on against former Gov. Don Siegelman for the Democratic nomination for the state's highest seat. Baxley and Riley won over voters in Escambia County.
The election results set up a November showdown between Riley, who is seeking a second term, and Baxley, who seeks to become the state's second female governor.
With 13 percent of precincts reporting statewide at presstime, Baxley was leading Siegelman with 58 percent of the vote. Siegelman has spent little time on the campaign trail because he has been in court every day fighting charges of corruption during his previous administration.
Riley beat Moore, known as the Ten Commandments judge, by 68 percent.
