The Second Annual Summer Bash Softball Tournament was a success to the tune of approximately $2,000. The July 15-16 tournament was a fundraiser for the Northwest Escambia cheerleaders and tournament coordinator Emily Tullis said it was a blast.
"Everybody seemed to have fun and we had no injuries, which is always a good thing," Tullis said. "It was definitely a good way to come out and have fun."
The tournament winner was the Deep South Sluggers. They defeated Outkast 11-8 in the championship game Saturday.
The entry fee for the co-ed tournament was $200 per team and it was played at Bradberry Park. All the proceeds went towards the cheerleading program.
Tullis said teams came from all around the area, but most of the teams were from the Walnut Hill area. Other teams include: the Dirt Dobbers, the Nokomis Dobstoppers, the Wild Bunch, the Young Guns, the Castaways and Bratt Baptist.
The teams competed on Friday night and all day Saturday. Tullis said NWE will hold a charity tournament Aug. 11-12 for the NWE booster club.
