As anticipated, Creek Entertainment Center began serving alcohol to its patrons beginning at noon Friday.
According to PCI Gaming CFO Arthur Mothershed, the Poarch Band of Creek Indians received both a beer and wine license and a liquor license on Aug. 24 from the State of Alabama. The Tribal Council approved the serving of alcohol at its gaming facility pending state approval during its Aug. 20 regularly scheduled meeting. Upon receipt of the license, officials with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians issued the license to Creek Entertainment Center.
Mothershed said officials with the Creek Entertainment Center were simply satisfying customers' requests.
"It's something our customers have asked for," Mothershed said during an interview in late August. "We're in the customer service business and that's what they've asked for. We understand the seriousness of serving alcohol and we are taking all the necessary precautions to make sure everything is done properly so our customers can enjoy alcohol responsibly."
Prior to receipt of the license, additional staff members were hired and trained in the event the request was approved.
"We have taken great strides to ensure procedures are in place so our patrons will drink responsibly," Mothershed said.
Mothershed also said the Tribe has adopted a vendor program to assist in responsible consumption of alcohol, while at Creek Entertainment Center, which is located just off of Exit 57 on Interstate 65.
