The First Baptist Church of Atmore had a visitor Wednesday afternoon. Sparky the Fire Dog arrived by the side of the Atmore Fire &Rescue Department firefighters Wednesday to tell the children in daycare about fire prevention.
The month of October is designated as fire prevention month and Atmore Fire &Rescue Department chief Gerry McGhee said his department is happy to inform children about fires.
"We enjoy going around to the children in the community and teaching them about how to notice a fire," McGhee said. "And it is always fun to teach them stop, drop and roll. If any schools want us to come speak to them, all they have to do is call us and we will be there."
McGhee offered his gratitude to the Poarch Volunteer Fire Department for the use of the Sparky the Fire Dog costume.
Five Atmore firefighters traveled to First Baptist Church for the presentation and the group showed a movie about fire safety to the children and they also showed the children many techniques used in fighting a fire.
