The start to the 2006-07 season has been two streaks for the Northview Chiefs. They opened the season with two straight wins, but then proceeded to lose five straight games.
That losing streak was snapped Monday night with a 68-47 home win over W.S. Neal.
"It was a good win," NHS head coach Leonard White said. "I hope we can take this game as a stepping stone and build on that win."
White said the Chiefs (3-5) have started to come together as a team and some of the losses during that five-game stretch could have easily been wins.
"They are getting into a rhythm and they have found out what happens if you don't share the ball, you lose," White said.
White also said captain Nakita Myles has stepped up in the past couple games. Myles had a big night against W.S. Neal with 19 points Monday. Darius Austin, who White said had been suffering from a toe injury, led Northview with 20 points.
"Darius has really stepped up his play," White said.
The Chiefs travel to South Walton for a game Friday.
W.S. Neal 38 – Lady Chiefs 35
The Northview Lady Chiefs got into foul trouble early in their contest with the W.S. Neal Eagles and were not able to overcome the problem, losing 38-35.
"We got into foul trouble and the bench could not score enough to win the game for us," NHS head coach Lorenzo Jones said. "The girls played well out there, but we just couldn't make any shots. But they learned a good lesson about how bad losing the close one feels."
Gabe Wesley led the scoring for the Lady Chiefs with 21 points. Melissa Garrett added six points.
