The Northview Chiefs basketball team may have finished fourth in the Bank of Brewton Holiday Classic, but Nakita Myles ran laps around all the other scoring threats in the tournament. Myles scored 72 points and Flomaton's Scott Walton was the next closest with 51 points. Myles' teammate, Vincent Longmire was third in total scoring with 44 points.
Myles led the Chiefs to the third place game of the eight-team tournament after a close 56-53 to host T.R. Miller High School, but NHS lost that game, 53-41 to Monroe County.
"We just ran out of gas," NHS head coach Leonard White said. "We don't really have a supporting cast, so I have to keep my main five or six out there for the whole game and when the fourth quarter comes they are worn out. So we just need to do whatever we can to get in better condition because that is what hurt us tonight."
Northview led 15-9 after the first quarter and the game was tied, 23-23, at halftime. When the teams came out of the locker room, the score went back-and-forth until Monroe opened up a 42-32 lead to end the third quarter.
The tenacity of Myles on the court kept NHS close, but Monroe County eventually pulled away late in the fourth quarter and the Chiefs were forced to start fouling and they never did get back in the game.
Myles led the scoring with 19 points and was named to the all-tournament team for his performance.
