Atmore residents will have the opportunity to learn first-hand what is in store for the state of Alabama in the new year at noon Friday as U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby makes a stop at David's Catfish House to talk with Escambia County residents.
Sen. Shelby will discuss his legislative agenda for the 110th Congress as well as important issues facing the nation and the state of Alabama. Following his remarks, Sen. Shelby will open the floor to questions and comments from those in attendance.
Sen. Shelby has held over 1300 county visits since being elected to serve the state of Alabama. As part of his commitment to Alabamians, Sen. Shelby holds a meeting in each county once a year.
"Over the years, these meetings have provided an excellent opportunity for area residents to listen and voice their opinions on the activities of our government," Shelby said. "This will be a great chance to discuss the important issues facing our state and our nation as the 110th Congress reconvenes."
Atmore mayor Howard Shell is optimistic about Shelby's visit and looks forward to continued support from the senator.
"The City of Atmore has always been well received by Sen. Shelby and his staff on any of our Washington trips," Shell said. "Sen Shelby has always been supportive of initiatives, proposals or needs that we have brought to him from Atmore. We look forward to his continuing support in this new year."
The county visit, which is open to the public, will be take place at the new David's Catfish House located at 1804 South Main Street in Atmore at noon Jan. 5.
