Michael Boyd Hope
BRATT, FLA. – Mr. Michael Boyd Hope, 56, passed away on Monday, Feb. 19, 2007 in Bratt, Fla.
Mr. Hope was a native of Gastonie, N.C., a former resident of Auburndale, Fla., a resident of Bratt, Fla. for the past 21 years and attended the Bratt First Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his father, Boyd "Brownie" Hope, and a brother, Byron Hope.
Survivors include: his wife, Elizabeth Hope of Bratt, Fla.; his son, Preston Michael Hope of Cantonment, Fla.; his daughter, Amanda Elizabeth Pulate of Jackson, Miss.; four grandchildren; his mother, JoAnne Hope Brown of Winter Haven, Fla.; and three brothers, Eddie Hope of Bartow, Fla., Greg Hope of Pensacola, Fla., and Doug Hope of Morgan City, La.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jesse Cook officiating.
Visitation was held Friday, February 23, 2007 between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers were John Miller, Jamie Miller, Todd Warren, Dustin Kelly, George Guilford and Terry Bryan.
Arthur Douglas Carden
FLOMATON – Mr. Arthur Douglas Carden, 63, of Wolf Long Road in Flomaton, passed away Wednesday evening Feb. 21, 2007 at a local nursing home after an extended illness. Mr. Carden was a native of Brewton and life long resident of Flomaton. He was a retired insurance representative with Western Southern and Mutual Savings. He was a member of the Friendship Freewill Baptist Church and an original member of the gospel group The Cardens.
Preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel Carden and Katie Courtney, and a sister, Elizabeth Burnham.
Survivors include: Mrs. Ruth Baggett Carden of Flomaton; two sons, Tony Carden of Brunswick, Ga., and Rich (Jennifer) Carden of Birmingham; one brother, Chuck (Maggie) Carden of Atmore; four grandchildren, Aaron Carden, Elizabeth Carden, Reece Carden, Cameron Carden; two nephews, Danny Carden and Rusty Burnham; two nieces, Donna Norwood and Katie Carden
Visitation was Friday evening Feb. 23, 2007 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Inc.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Inc. with the Rev. Mike Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Baggett's Chapel Cemetery in Baggett's Chapel community in Conecuh County with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Inc. of Brewton directing.
Louise W. Johnson
ATMORE – Mrs. Louise W. Johnson, 77, of Atmore died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007 at Atmore Community Hospital.
Christian Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Annie Ruth McCants
ATMORE – Ms. Annie Ruth McCants, 60, passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 at Atmore Community Hospital. She was a native and resident of Atmore and a member of Lighthouse Apostolic Holiness Church.
She was employed with Lighthouse Apostolic Holiness Church Day Care.
Preceded in death were her parents, Jessie and Zelma McCants.
Survivors include: a son, Jeff McCants of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Rose Payne of Pensacola, Fla.; three brothers, Walter Lee McCants of Atmore, Claude McCants and Jimmie McCants, both of Pensacola, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Lighthouse Apostolic Holiness Church in Atmore with Pastor Robert Grissett officiating.
Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery in Atmore.
Public viewing were Friday, Feb. 23, 2007 from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel.
Turner Funeral Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.
Julia Katherine Garrett Luker
ATMORE – Mrs. Julia Katherine Garrett Luker, 81, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007 at a local hospital.
Mrs. Luker was a native of Nokomis, Fla. and a resident of Atmore for most of her life and attended the Nokomis Baptist Church. Preceded in death were her husband of 23 years and the father of her children, James Rayo Luker; her parents, Leon M. and Sadie Rhodes Garrett; her stepmother, Catherine Lucinda Garrett; two sisters, Audrey Mae Garrett Martin, and Gillian Lucinda Garrett; and five brothers, Edward Dorsey "Buddie" Garrett, Wayne Benjamin Garrett, Dolton Mearland Garrett, Anthony Allen Garrett, and and unnamed brother.
Survivors include: her son, Tony Rayo and Shelia Luker of Dothan; two daughters, Kathy Annette Luker and Edmund L. "Buddy" Kyser, and Linda Rayleen Luker and Thomas E. Miller, all of Atmore; eight grandchildren, Sherra Michell Kyser Shivers, Thomas Wayne Miller, Kynda DeAnn Kyser Johnson, Jarrod Edmund Kyser, Brandi Dianna Deese, Justin Rayo Luker, Katherine Rayleen Miller and Linda Kay Leigh Miller; ten great-grandchildren, Jessica Ann Cramer, Kala Marie Cramer, Donovan Cotita, Christopher Shep Wayne Miller, Heather Cerys Bray, Crystal Hope Miller, Kalynn Marie Johnson, Cody Blayne Miller, Lani Michell Shivers, And Michael Steven Shivers, Jr.; two brothers, Leon Lamar Garrett of Red Level and Avis Jefferson and Gennie Garrett of Grand Bay; and four sisters, Louise Garrett Little Hayes of Pensacola, Fla., Artie Mar Garrett Brown of Bay Minettel Barbara Ann Garrett and Steve D'Andrea of Bay Minette, and Frances Adell Garrett and Ray Fowler of Atmore.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Wilson officiating.
Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation was held Wednesday, February 21, 2007 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Leon Lamar Garrett, Avis Jefferson Garrett, Michael Steven Shivers, Thomas Wayne Miller, Jarrod Edmund Kyser, Justin Rayo Luker and Larry Guy Little.
Garlie "Woody" Woods
CANTONMENT, FLA. – Garlie "Woody" Woods of Cantonment, Fla. passed away Feb. 19, 2007 in a local hospital. Mr. Woods was born July 26, 1924 in Uriah. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the United States Army. He was retired from St. Regis Paper Company and was a member of Full Gospel Assembly of God Church in Pensacola, Fla.
Proceeding him in death were his parents, Sam and Louiza Colbet Woods; one daughter, Neoma D. White; two brothers, Marion Woods of New Orleans and Sam Woods, Jr. of Hill, Pa.; four sisters, Cora Lee Murphy, Rency Mae Madison, Mary Lou Trawick and Mary Douglas Woods.
Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy Woods; one son, Wendell Woods of Fairhope; two daughters, Peggy J. Woods of Reno, N.V., and Donna Woods of Milton, Fla.; five step-sons, Charles Milstead, Harold Milstead , Ray Milstead, John Milstead and Gene Milstead; three step-daughters, Polly Wood, Frances Chilton, and Betty McNorton; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Willie Ray Woods of Atmore; three sisters, Genese McCraney, Dovie W. Stanley, and Anna B. Phipps, all of Atmore.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 23, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North-Cantonment with Brother Troy Chance and Brother Ronnie Brooks officiating. Interment followed at Cottage Hill Assembly of God Church Cemetery in Cottage Hill, Fla.
The family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
