Traffic stop nets drugs, cash

A routine traffic violation turned into a drug bust when officer Steve Morris with the Atmore Police Department pulled over Lashavies Williams of Atmore for running a traffic light Thursday afternoon.
While issuing a citation, a pat down was performed and Williams had in his possession crack cocaine, powder cocaine along with marijuana. Williams also had $2,089.74 in cash.
Williams was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marihuana first degree. He was on supervised probation with the Alabama Probation office.
The 21st Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force agents were called to the scene to confiscate the drugs and money. Williams was arrested and transported to Escambia County Correctional Facility.
The 21st Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force includes the following law enforcement agencies, Escambia County Sheriff's Department, Atmore Police Department, East Brewton Police Department, Brewton Police Department, Flomaton Police Department, Escambia County District Attorney's Office, Poarch Police Department and the Escambia County Commission.
The Task Force receives 50 percent of its funding from a grant funded by the Bureau of Justice Affairs Division of the United States Department of Justice, which is administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. The remainder of the funding is provided by the Escambia County Sheriff's Department, Atmore Police Department, Brewton Police Department and the Escambia County's District Attorney's Office.
