The Northview Chiefs run in the FHSAA Class 3A playoffs was silenced after one game, but that game was not of the normal variety. It was a nine-inning affair that the Chiefs lost 4-3 to Chipley High School May 1.
"We were up 3-1 in the sixth inning and we just couldn't hold on," NHS head coach Sid Wheatley said. "We had our chances to break the game open with the bases loaded and we couldn't get that hit we needed."
Chipley tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-run single. The teams played two extra frames before the tie was broken in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Jeff Price started the game for NHS, but was taken out in the ninth inning. He had six strikeouts and three walks. He allowed three runs on four hits and the Chiefs committed two errors in the field.
"Both pitchers threw good and neither deserved to lose that game," Wheatley said.
Brandon Walker was 2-for-4 at the plate for the Chiefs with two runs scored. Jesse Hayes was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Price was 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Tyler Tucci went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Sean Little was 2-for-5.
"This was a tough loss for us and it hurt," Wheatley said.
