Carolyn S. Lassitter
ATMORE – Mrs. Carolyn S. Lassitter, 71, life-long resident of Atmore, died Monday, May 14, 2007 at her residence. She was retired from Vanity Fair Mills after 48 years as an examiner, a member of the first Assembly of God church in Atmore and a member of Lottie Vol. Fire Department, born in Monroe County to the late Willard C. and Ima Dobbins Smith.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Comer Lee Lassitter; her parents, Willard C. Smith, Ima and Ernest Roberts, one brother, W.C. Smith and one sister, Luverne Davis.
Survivors are: two daughters, Kathy Allison and Gary Wood, Barbara Allison Hastings and husband, Williams Hastings, Jr., all of Atmore; one sister, Patsy Gulsby of Atmore; one sister-in-law, Ellen Smith of Stockbridge, Ga.,; eight grandchildren, Kenneth Wayne Kimbler, II and wife, Lawanda, Christiana Singelton and husband, Keith, Nadia Carol Coker and husband, John David, Donald "D.J." Jowers and with Rebecca, April Dorriety and husband James, Samantha Hastings, Bill Hastings, and Brad Hastings; 18 great-grandchildren, Jammie Kimbler, Kenny Wayne Kimbler, III, Whitney Kimbler, Britney Kimbler, Colton Singleton, Nathan Singleton, Gia Singleton, Michael Coker, Noah Coker, Abby Coker, Ray Anne Jowers, Bryson Jowers, A.J. Jowers, Cassie Jowers, Alex Doles, Jim Dorriety, Makayla Dorriety and Gracie Dorriety; the Lassistter and Allison families and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services were held May 17, 2007 at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Don Davis and the Rev. Joe Digmon officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Kenneth Wayne Kimbler, II, Donald "DJ" Jowers, James Dorriety, John David Coker, Larry Smith, Barry Smith, Gerold Davis, and Bob Courter. Honorary pallbearers were, Milford Lassitter, Earl Gunn, J.R. Allison, John Edward Davis, Buddy Mosley and Mike Johnson.
Family received friends Wednesday evening, May 16, 2007 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
June Evangeline Carver
ATMORE – Mrs. June Evangeline Carver, 56, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 in Atmore.
Mrs. Carver was a native of Gulfport, Miss. and a resident of Atmore for most of her life. She was a nurse's aid, a healthcare giver, a sitter for the sick and elderly and attended the Judson Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Jerry Carver of Atmore; two sons, Leighton Spicer of Walnut Hill, Fla., and David Spicer of Bratt, Fla.; her daughter, Alida Kay Spicer of Atmore; her stepdaughter, Bridgette Martinez of Atmore; three grandchildren, Dusty Spicer, Katie Martinez, and Meda Martinez; and her mother-in-law, Velma Carver of Atmore.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 20, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Byrd Mapoles and the Rev. Henry Wilson officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation was held Saturday, May 19, 2007 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Ella Fair Newton
FLOMATON – Mrs. Ella Fair Newton, 86, of Flomaton passed away Friday, May 18, 2007 at her residence.
Services are to be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel.
