ATMORE – Mrs. Lorrine J. Hixon-Johnson, 76, of Atmore died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Springhill Medical Center in Mobile.
She was a native of Monroe County, and had been a resident of Atmore for many years. She was a member of the Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church. She was a retired lunchroom employee for the Escambia County (Ala.) Board of Education.
She is survived by: her husband, Almer (Mandy) Johnson of Atmore; ten daughters, Beulah Mallard of Fayetteville, N.C., Veronica Blackmon, Glenda Palmore, and Judy Longmire all of Baltimore, Md., Josie Rice and Lillie English, both of Los Angeles, Calif., Cordia Coleman, Cavalivion Hubert, and Marion Johnson all of Atmore, and Jacqueline Johnson of Dayton, Ohio; four sons, Curtis Coleman of Birmingham, Albert Johnson, Gregory Coleman, and Rodney Johnson, all of Atmore; 31 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Funeral services were held June 19, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore with the Rev. Ray Palmore officiating and the Rev. Willie Hawthorne, Pastor. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery in Atmore. Her body lied instate at the church one hour prior to the funeral service with Turner Funeral Chapel of Atmore directing.
Eugene McNeil Jr.
ATMORE – Mr. Eugene McNeil Jr., 56, of Atmore died Sunday, June 17, 2007 at his residence. Public viewing will be Friday,June 22, 2007 from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. Family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Christian Memorial Funeral Chapel. Service will be held Saturday, June 23, 2007 at Gaines Chapel A.M.E. at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Stallworth Cemetery.
Christian Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
William A. "Bill" Bradley
ATMORE – Mr. William A. "Bill" Bradley, 62, of Atmore died Friday, June 15, 2007 at his residence.
He was a native and longtime resident of Atmore. He was a graduate of Escambia County Training School and had been a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Atmore. He had been a self-employed carpenter.
He is survived by his daughter, Twonette Marshall of Panama City, Fla.; three sons, William Bradley, II, William Marshall, and Sean Marshall, all of Atmore; three sisters, Dorothy McAroy, Lena Mare McCall, and Betty Longmire, all of Atmore; four brothers, Earl "Arbo" Bradley and Lessel Bradley, both of Atmore, Jessie James Bradley of San Antonio, Texas and Willie Gene Bradley of Carbon Hill; 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2007 at 11 a.m. at God's House Temple of Deliverance Church in Atmore (Freemanville) with the Rev. Alfonzia Williams, Pastor of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, officiating, Bishop W. Howard, Pastor. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Atmore. His body will lie instate at the church one hour prior to the funeral service with Turner Funeral Chapel of Atmore directing.
Allegra Tyra Bowens
MIAMI, Fla. – Ms. Allegra T. Bowens, 38, of Miami, Fla. died Sunday, June 17, 2007 at Cedar Hospital in Miami.
She was born in Los Angeles, Calif., and then later moved to Miami, Fla., where she remained until her death. She was a graduate of Englewood High in Los Angeles and was employed by Michael's School of Arts.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Audrey Bowens McDowell; two daughters, Jasmine Neal, Jyra Smith, both of Miami, Fla.; one son, Jacob Williams of Miami, Fla.; one sister, Anissa McDowell of Miami, Fla.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore with the Rev. Tony McAroy as officiating minister. Interment will be in the Stallworth Cemetery in Atmore. Her body will lie instate at the church one hour prior to the funeral service with Turner Funeral Chapel of Atmore directing.
Consiwilla Ikner Knott
WALNUT HILL, Fla. – Mrs. Consiwilla Ikner Knott, 67, of Walnut Hill, Fla., died Saturday, June 16, 2007 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
She was a native and longtime resident of Walnut Hill, Fla. She attended school at Ransom School in Cantonment, Fla. She was a housewife and had been a member of New St. Paul Baptist Church in Walnut Hill.
She is survived by: her husband, David Knott, Sr. of Walnut Hill, Fla.; two daughters, Shirley Brooks of Cantonment and Lisa Knott of Atmore; four sons, David Knott, Jr., and Tommy Knott, both of Walnut Hill, Fla., James Knott of Atlanta, Ga., and Ronnie Knott of Pensacola, Fla.; five sisters, Bernice Smith and Bertha Stanley, both of Pensacola, Fla., Mary Lou Milton and Elmyna Wright, both of Loxley, and Ruby Lee Johnson of Miami, Fla.; four brothers, Otis Ikner of Chipley, Fla., J.W. Ikner of Walnut Hill, Fla., Curtis Thames of New York, N.Y., Willie Sam Ikner of Loxley; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2007 at 11 a.m. at New St. Paul Baptist Church in Walnut Hill, Fla. with the Rev. Raymond Redmond officiating, the Rev. Willie White, Pastor. Interment will be in the New St. Paul Cemetery in Walnut Hill. Her body will lie instate at the church one hour prior to the funeral service with Turner Funeral Chapel of Atmore directing.
Zelma Ruth (Johnson) Nelson
BIRMINGHAM – Zelma Ruth (Johnson) Nelson, 79, of Birmingham, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 16, 2007 while surrounded by loved ones. She was born and raised in Atmore and was a graduate of Atmore High School. A precious mother, "granny" and "great granny," sister and friend, she will be greatly missed. Left here to cherish her memory are two children, Michael Nelson (and wife Carol) of Hoover and Cathy Wynell Yancey (and husband Bobby) of Trussville; six grandchildren, Michell Whittemore, Jenifer Poythress, Christopher Nelson, David Nelson, Robert Yancey, and Erin Pierson; five great grandchildren; two surviving sisters, Gertrude Stephens and Olivia Killian; one surviving brother, Ray Johnson; and many friends.
A celebration of her homegoing was held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, June 19. Visitation was Monday night and she was laid to rest at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville. Pastor John A. Loper (former Pastor of Atmore First Assembly of God) officiated. The family would like to express our sincere love and thanks to the caring staff at St. Vincent's Hospital at Birmingham and the multitude of friends and family for their prayers, love, care and support.

FRISCO CITY – Mr. Walter McNeil, 79, of Frisco City died Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Monroe County Hospital. Public viewing will be Thursday, June 21, 2007 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Christian Memorial Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be Friday, June 22, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church in Walnut Hill, Fla. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
