The Atmore Police Department continues its investigation into an armed robbery that occurred last week at a local convenience store.
According to a press release issued by the APD, officers responded to the Citgo gas station located at 1613 South Main Street on Oct. 18 after receiving a 911 call from the clerk, who stated to the dispatcher that the store had been robbed.
"We received the alarm and the officers responded within a minute to determine what had happened," APD chief Jason Dean said Tuesday afternoon.
Upon arrival, officers were informed that a black male wearing a black T-shirt and black pants entered the store armed with a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. The suspect then fled the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
"A description was given to the officers on the street and a perimeter was set up in the direction he was heading," Dean said.
According to Dean, the Alabama Department of Corrections dog tracking team was called to assist with the search, but was unable to pick up a scent because of rainy weather conditions.
"The weather was so bad they couldn't pick up a track," Dean said.
The Atmore Police Department is currently investigating the robbery and is asking for the community's assistance. If you have any information regarding the incident, contact the Investigations Division of the Atmore Police Department at 368-9141.
