Participants needed for research study
Baptist Clinical Research is seeking participants for a diabetic neuropathy treatment study. Men and women who have been diagnosed with diabetic neuropathy ages 18 to 70 with a blood glucose level no greater than 300 should apply. Those responding will be screened further to determine eligibility.
Those eligible will take part in a 20-week study that includes six visits at Baptist Clinical Research study center. Study related medical and lab procedures will be performed at no cost. Call Baptist Clinical Research (850) 469-2491 to be screened for participation in this study.

County meeting scheduled for Dec. 4

Coupons available at Farmers Market
The Alabama Farmers Market Authority is reminding coupon recipients of the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) that the deadline to redeem their voucher is Nov. 15.
The $20 vouchers that were issued through the Area Agency on Aging expire next month and cannot be used after that date.
Coupons can be redeemed at the Atmore Farmers Market next to City Hall Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Legion Auxiliary sponsors yard sale
The American Legion Auxiliary will be sponsoring an "Indoor Yard Sale" on Nov. 16, from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. Barbeque pork sandwiches will be available for sale as well. Proceeds from this sale will be used to update some building facilities.
The American Legion Auxiliary is seeking the identity of any area active military families who will be separated from their children at Christmas. The American Legion and Auxiliary would like to have the children and spouse present at "Breakfast with Santa" on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. If you know of families who will be in this situation, contact the American Legion at 446-1403 (voice mail).
We need to have these names by the middle of Nov., so that we can contact Santa about the child's Christmas wishes at the American Legion.
United Bank holds 2007 Blood Bowl
United Bank will be holding their annual Alabama vs. Auburn Blood Bowl Nov. 16 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m.
As a thank you for saving lives, all donors will receive a free T-shirt and will be entered to win two Delta Airline tickets.
Also, donors can register to win their choice of either an Alabama or Auburn stadium blanket.
The Singing Echoes at church Nov. 16
"The Singing Echoes" of Cleveland, Tenn. will be in concert at the New Home Church near Monroeville at 7 p.m. Nov. 16. There will be no charge for admission, but a love offering will be received.
In 1973, The Singing Echoes received a grammy nomination for their arrangement and performance of the song "When I wake up to sleep no more." The group's work was recognized by the state of Tennessee and Governor Lamar Alexander appointed them as "Ambassadors of Good Will" for Tennessee.
The Revs. Kenneth Johnson and Thomas Smith invite everyone to attend. New Home Church is located just north of U.S. Highway 84 between Repton and Monroeville.
Bank hosts outdoor movie on Nov. 17
United Bank is entertaining local families with an outdoor movie at the athletic field behind the fire station on Pensacola Avenue in Atmore. There's no admission charge.
Be sure to bring your blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets full of movie snacks. Come early to set up your spread. It will be tons of fun! Showtime is 6:00 pm.
Annual Unity Feast slated Nov. 17
The Concerned Citizens of Atmore Unity in the Community will sponsor their 11th annual Unity Thanksgiving Feast free to the public Nov. 17. There will be turkey with all the trimmings. Prayer will be at 11:45 a.m. and dinner will be from noon until 2:30 p.m. There will be a place available to eat at the event and also there will be carry out. The event will be held at Zion Star AME Zion Church located at 127 Carver Ave. with the Rev. Shuford as pastor.
Annual Renaissance Faire Nov. 17-18
The 6th Annual Renaissance Faire will be held Saturday, Nov. 17 and Sunday Nov. 18, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day at the Mobile Greater Gulf State Fair Grounds. There will be pirates, Jousting Knights, Medieval Fighters, Fire Breathers, Falconry, Swordfighters, Jugglers, Magical Wizards, Jesters, Renaissance Dancers and much, much more!
Admission is $10 adults, $5 children 5-12, children 4 and under free.
Fall carnival in Poarch slated for Nov. 17
Friendly Holiness Church in Poarch will be having a Fall Carnival from 1 to 5 p.m. Nov.17. There will be games, a cakewalk, and a gospel singing. A hayride will begin at 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

Trinity Church to hold "Blue Mass" Nov. 18
Trinity Episcopal Church will conduct "Blue Mass," a service of Thanksgiving to honor Atmore's police officers, firefighters and ambulance services. The event will be held on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m., the Holy Eucharistic service will include a special Prayer of Thanksgiving for our city's first responders – the men and women who risk their own lives and safety to protect the citizens of Atmore. Junior Auxiliary group meetings scheduled
The monthly meeting of the American Legion JUNIOR Auxiliary is held on the first Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. in the Second Floor Activity Room of the American Legion. Any eligible girl under 18 years of age is welcome.

Friday night dances at VFW open to public
Friday Night Dances at the VFW are open to the general public for a donation of $5 per participant. Country and soft rock music for dancing is provided by the VFW's Freedom Band. If you like good, clean, safe fun, the VFW Post located at 206 W. Ashley Street is the place to be on Friday nights from 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
"Pot luck" finger food and suppers are scheduled occasionally in conjunction with the dances to add to the merriment. Remember the VFW Post in Atmore is the place to be on Friday nights.

Atmore Church of God starting clubs
The Atmore Church of God is starting a Boys Club and a Girls Club. Ages will range from 5 years through 16 years of age. They are inviting all boys and girls to join the club and enjoy the activities. Legion dances held Saturday nights
American Legion dance is held every Saturday night from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. unless there is a fifth Saturday in the month. Donation of $5 taken at the door.
