Kinman helps when she can

(This week The Atmore Advance spotlights 61-year-old Myrtis Kinman. Kinman is a member of the Poarch SAIL Center where she enjoys helping out wherever she can. She also enjoys spending time with her three grandchildren.)
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born in Escambia County on Dec. 28, 1945.
Q: Who were your parents?
A: Mr. and Mrs. Levi McGhee.
Q: Where were they from?
A: From Escambia County. Both are deceased now.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
A: Yes. I had a total of nine sisters and two brothers. Those living are Martha Wilson, Helen Hallman, Deloris Kelley, Velma Crocker, Eldnar McGhee, Judy McGhee and Eva Burkett.
Q: Where do they all live?
A: All of them live here. We all get together every three months for a sister outing and we spend the night together.
Q: Do you do a lot of traveling?
A: With the (Poarch SAIL Center) seniors mostly. Then me and my husband go whenever we want to. I am looking forward to our trip with the seniors to the state of Washington in '08.
Q: Where all have you visited?
A: I've traveled a lot. My husband was in the service. We lived in Oklahoma for about three years.
Q: Out of all the places you've been, what was your favorite?
A: I liked Tennessee, the Smoky Mountains.
Q: Where did you attend high school and college?
A: Poarch through the sixth grade and then Escambia County High School until I graduated in '64.
Q: What jobs have you held?
A: Mostly in factories. Since I finished high school I've worked at Frisco City from '64 to '70 and that's when I got married and moved to Oklahoma.
I came back here in '74 and worked at Vanity Fair until they closed their doors in '02.
My last day was March 19, 2002 and I haven't worked since.
Q: Who is your husband?
A: David L. Kinman.
Q: Where is he from?
A: Originally he's from Whatley.
Q: Do you have any children or grandchildren?
A: I have two children – Melanie Boatwright and David A. Kinman. Melanie lives in Wetumpka and David lives here.
I have three grandkids and I am very proud of that. Logan is 14, Madelyn is 9 and Conner will be 2 in February.
Q: Where do you attend church?
A: I go to the Atmore Apostolic Church.
Q: What keeps you busy these days?
A: Helping with different fundraisers. I tend to the grand youngins a lot. I really just go all the time. I go shopping a lot. And, I help up here (at the Poarch SAIL Center) serving lunch and doing whatever else they need me to do.
Q: What's your favorite TV show?
A: I don't watch TV. I don't even have one. I listen to gospel music, I love the Crabb Family.
Q: What advice would like to give people on staying healthy?
A: Exercise, eat right and get out and travel. And, everyone needs to go to church and live for the Lord.
