Rolin gives back by volunteering

(This week The Atmore Advance spotlights 67-year-old Hazel Rolin. Rolin volunteers during her spare time at the Atmore Community Hospital as an Auxiliary member.)
Q: When and where were you born?
A: Here in Escambia County, Atmore.
Q: And what is your birthday?
A: March 3, 1940.
Q: Who were your parents?
A: Edgar and Ruthie Mae Rackard.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
A: In my family there are five girls and two boys.
Q: Do they all live around the Atmore area?
A: One sister lives in Jasper and the rest live around here.
Q: Do you do a lot of traveling?
A: No, not really. We went to the mountains the year before my father passed away. I enjoyed that.
Q: What mountains did you visit?
A: Gatlinburg, the Smokey Mountains.
Q: Where did you attend high school and college?
A: Escambia County High School.
Q: What jobs have you held?
A: Vanity Fair for about 13 years. Then I worked with the Escambia County Board of Education as an Indian aid for 32 years until I retired.
Now I volunteer with the Hospital Auxiliary.
Q: Did you ever marry?
A: Yes.
Q: What's your husband's name?
A: Ardis Rolin.
Q: Where is he from?
A: From here.
Q: Do you have any children or grandchildren?
A: Four children; Rhonda Linam, Susan O'Donovan, Felicia Parker and Edward Rolin, everyone knows him as "Eddie."
Q: Where do they all live?
A: Rhonda lives in Perdido, but she works in surgery here at the hospital. Susan lives in Poarch. Felicia lives in Bay Minette and Eddie lives in Pensacola, he works for an engineering firm there.
I think all my children have done really well.
Q: Any grandchildren?
A: I have four grandchildren.
Q: Where do you attend church?
A: United Pentecostal Holiness Church at Poarch.
Q: Is there where you've gone your whole life?
A: All my life.
Q: What keeps you busy these days?
A: Volunteering here at the hospital.
During the summer we have a garden, I put up a lot of peas and butterbeans. This time of year I do a lot of cooking for the holidays.
Q: What do you do as an Auxiliary member at Atmore Community Hospital?
A: On Mondays I answer the phone from 10-12 and on Tuesdays I'm a hostess upstairs.
Q: What's your favorite food?
A: I just love to eat and I like most everything. I guess my favorite would be fried chicken and potato salad.
Q: What advice would like to give people on staying healthy?
A: Exercise, staying busy and eating well.
