'Let's Talk About it' features Garrett
Every Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. WNSI 105.9 FM in Atmore has "Let's Talk About It" hosted by Atmore resident Susan Smith.
Today's special guest will be Ginger Garrett, author of "Beauty Secrets of the Bible." Smith said the book is not only about rediscovering ancient secrets from our sisters, but it's also about rediscovering our own beauty.

Reid State offers GED testing
The GED test will be given at Reid State Technical College on Jan. 30-31 at 8 a.m.
Registration will be on Jan. 28-29 from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. All applicants must register in advance in building No. 100.
The cost of the entire battery is $50, retests are $10 each. A valid picture ID and social security card are required. Special accommodations are available for those with proven disabilities.

Call to Life Holy Ghost revival continues
Call to Life Apostolic Faith Ministry located at 119 W. Sunset Drive in Atmore will hold a Holy Ghost revival Jan. 7-10 at 7 p.m. G.J. Gibbs is the presiding apostle and founder.

Retirees association will meet tomorrow
The regular meeting of the Escambia County Education Retirees Association will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 10 at David's Catfish House, Hwy. 21 Atmore.
The guest speaker will be Otis Brunson, AERA membership coordinator. All education retirees on any level, all persons receiving a check from TRS of Alabama and all persons interested in public education are cordially invited to attend this important meeting.

Commission meeting slated for Jan. 14
The Escambia County Commission will conduct a regular session on Jan. 14 at 9 a.m. in the County Commission Chambers, Room 241, at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton. The administrative workshop will be held Jan. 10 at 8:30 a.m.
AOH Church holds New Year's revival
There will be a New Year's revival at AOH Church of God, located at 124 Harris St. in Atmore from Jan. 15-18 at 7:30 p.m. nightly.
Fire Department holds board meeting
The Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department will hold their Annual Board Meeting on Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Fire Station. They are inviting residents of Nokomis to come out and see what happened in 2007 and what's planned for 2008.

FBC Atmore hosts community service
There will be a Sanctity of Life Community Service at First Baptist Church Atmore on Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. Participating churches include, First Presbyterian, First United Methodist, First Baptist of Atmore, Grace Fellowship and Robinsonville Baptist.
Concerned Citizens plan for MLK Day
On Jan. 21 the nation will celebrate the 27th annual holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Atmore is one of the cities with events in his honor. Below is a list of events provided by the Concerned Citizens of Atmore (CCOA).

Atmore Baptist Temple hosts event
Atmore Baptist Temple will host a revival meeting with evangelist David Young Jan. 20-23.
Sunday's meetings will be held at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday-Wednesday meetings will be held at 7 p.m. nightly.

Brewton theater performs at JDCC
Brewton Community Theatre presents "Alice's Adventures In Wonderland." Alice journeys into a world of talking animals, comic royalty and races where the contestants run in circles! There's the Mad Hatter's frantic tea party, the watch-carrying White Rabbit and talking flowers. Along the way Alice must deal with a sneezing duchess and a baby that turns into a pig! The finale has Alice watching a trial, but she suddenly finds herself the accused! ALICE gives a modern view to an old classic, where nonsense makes quite good sense. Showdates: Jan. 25-27 at Jefferson Davis Community College's Woodfin Patterson Auditorium. Showtimes: Friday and Saturday at 7p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger.
Turtle Point hosts BBUG program
It's BBUG time again at Turtle Point. We are inviting parents and guardians of K through 5th grade students to submit an application for the BBUG (Building Backyard Urban Greenspaces) Program.
Why should you be a part of this program? Because it is fun, educational, and free! The BBUG Program is an innovative project that trains parents to take their children outside and learn about our natural world. The BBUG Program is an effort to get children off the couch and unplugged – from TV, video games and computers – and into the natural world. Children that spend time outside show fewer symptoms associated with ADHD, maintain a healthier body weight, are less likely to become depressed, and score higher on standardized tests. As BBUG participants, you will receive a backpack filled with equipment – worth over $200 – absolutely free. All we ask is that you commit to USE the equipment with your child and keep records of your projects for the BBUG Committee to review during the first year.

Atmore Lions looking for new members
The Atmore Lions Club meets the first and third Wednesday for lunch each month at the Atmore Community Hospital. All interested in joining the club are welcome to attend.
Legion meetings second Tuesdays
American Legion meeting is held the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the American Legion building. If anyone is interested in membership, please call 446-1403 and leave a voicemail.
Junior Auxiliary group meetings scheduled
The monthly meeting of the American Legion JUNIOR Auxiliary is held on the first Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. in the Second Floor Activity Room of the American Legion. Any eligible girl under 18 years of age is welcome.
Parents may contact Mary Stanley at 368-5769 to check eligibility or come to the meeting as scheduled.
VFW host Friday night dances
Friday Night Dances at the VFW are open to the general public for a donation of $5 per participant. Country and soft rock music for dancing is provided by the VFW's Freedom Band. If you like good, clean, safe fun, the VFW Post located at 206 W. Ashley Street is the place to be on Friday nights from 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
"Pot luck" finger food and suppers are scheduled occasionally in conjunction with the dances to add to the merriment. Remember the VFW Post in Atmore is the place to be on Friday nights.
Legion Auxiliary schedules meetings
American Legion Auxiliary meeting is held the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion building.
