Concerned Citizens help make Atmore’s MLK Jr. Day special
City of Atmore residents celebrated the national holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Monday with a parade and program hosted by the Concerned Citizens of Atmore.
The parade consisted of many excellent floats that were beautifully decorated, commemorating MLK Jr. There were also several marching groups including the Escambia County High School Marching Band. The NJROTC led the parade.
There was even one man who danced as he walked along the streets. He looked like he was having a great time!
But, parades, food and fun is not what MLK Day is all about. The holiday is meant for coming together whether you are white, black, grey, purple or green, it doesn’t matter. And, that’s what Atmore did on Monday with people of every color lining the streets to watch the parade.
Following the parade was a program in which many individuals sang and spoke. But, the keynote speaker was the Rev. Leon Grove of Mobile. Grove talked about the importance of many African American inventors and how significant their inventions were. He also talked about how important the church is in the community. But, most importantly he talked about what MLK Jr. did for the United States.
All in all the day was excellent. We think the Concerned Citizens of Atmore did a great job with the MLK festivities this year.
It has got to be stressful putting on a parade and a program in the same day so congratulations Concerned Citizens, you pulled it all off without a hitch.
