They tried to come back and win their final home game, but the second quarter of the Escambia County B team's game against Monroe County Friday was too much to overcome.
"We really came out flat tonight," ECHS head coach Bradley Mitchell said. "And Monroe came out ready to play, so that put us in a hole."
The Blue Devils and Tigers were tied 10-10 after the first quarter, but Monroe County outscored the Devils 15-5 in the second quarter for a 25-15 halftime lead. That lead swelled to 38-23 by the end of the third quarter, but ECHS won the fourth quarter 11-4 for the final of 42-34.
"Our second group off the bench really cut into that lead," Mitchell said. "They usually give us a good defensive effort and they added some offense today."
Donta Johnson led the scoring for ECHS with 8 points. Nate Davis added 7 points. Charles Crook had 6 points. Quinton Craft had 3 points and Chris Walker had 2 points.
