Council rescinds license ordinance

Those Atmore business owners and operators that expressed concerns over Atmore’s new business license ordinance, worry no more.
The Atmore City Council voted unanimously Monday afternoon to revisit the current business license fee schedule and extend the deadline for payment of 2008 business licenses until the end of March.
According to Shell, the council raised business license fees at the recommendation of the League of Municipalities. He stated after receiving numerous phone calls of concern, the council agreed to rescind the new ordinance and approve another one with fees the same or similar to the previous ordinance.
According to Shell, if a business has already paid its business license under the new ordinance, the “fees will be returned to the payee.” The new rate must then be paid.
Also during the meeting, newly appointed councilman Eldred Pritchett was sworn into office.
Shell also presented the nameplate of the late councilman John Watkins who passed away Jan. 10.
His daughter, Brenda, accepted the memento from Shell on behalf of her family.

Shell said he looks forward to the Italian restaurant opening.
